WHEN WILL JESUS SIT ON THE THRONE? ?

MF Blume

Many Believers long for the day when Jesus Christ shall return and rule and reign over all the Earth.  However, according to Scriptures, Jesus is and has been ruling over all the Earth ever since His resurrection!  It seems that much of prophecy, even the points regarding His present dominion over all the Earth, have been washed down to some future time, when all the while they have been true for thousands of years.
Hebrews 10:12-13  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
The  Book of Hebrews teaches us that Christ sat down once and for all after the sacrifice of the cross, having finished any work that was necessary to be accomplished.  And after that seating, we read that His finished work so complete that He sits expecting the ramifications of that work to eventually put all enemies beneath His footstool.  And He is going to continue to sit on this throne until a certain point, according to additional words of Paul.
1 Corinthians 15:24-28  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet . The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Notice that Paul spoke of the same issue as is found in Hebrews 10.  Paul wrote saying that Jesus Christ is ruling from His throne.  God put all things beneath the Son of God's feet.  And He is seated until all enemies are made His footstool.  Paul informs us that this will occur at which time the Son will then relinquish all authority and rule over to the Father.

This note of reigning until all enemies are beneath Him, upon which time the Son will then relinquish all power to the Father is absolutely absent from the teachings of the futurists who claim Christ has not even begun to rule yet!  They contend that if He is ruling, then why is there so much unrest and warfare occurring in the world.  But if one would only read these scriptures, one would recognize that His ruling is indeed presently real, but is a reign that gradually sees all come into subjection to Him.  He is not going to begin to rule when all has been made subject to Him, but the Bible explicitly teaches that He is ruling until all things are subjected to Him.

HE MUST REIGN TILL HE HATH PUT ALL ENEMIES UNDER HIS FEET.

The reason all things are being subjected to Him gradually is the finished work He accomplished on the cross 2000 years ago.  That one work of Calvary gave such a fell swoop of conquest that He has been sitting on the throne ever since that day expecting the repercussions of that single work to eventually carry through thousands of years until no enemy is left standing.  That is one powerful work!  Praise God!

Paul taught elsewhere that Christ rules over all right now.
Ephesians 1:20-23  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world , but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Christ is presently seated over all things.  And according to Hebrews and 1 Corinthians, this means that everything is gradually being subdued to Him as time passes.  Finally death is going to be abolished, and its not going to be because Christ is going to do something in our future to accomplish that.  Its going to be because of the single work of the cross that occurred 2000 years ago!

Does it make sense to say that Christ rules all when yet all things are not subdued to Him?  Yes, if you consider the following scriptures:
Romans 5:20  ...But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Christ's good is always greater than evil.  Life is stronger than death, as proven by Christ's resurrection. Jesus holds the keys of death and hell.
Revelation 1:18   I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
His rule is one of being seated right now, and sitting there watching all things become His footstool as the reverberations from the cross ripple through time and bring down every enemy below Him.  Essentially He is seated right now over it all.  Practically, all things are gradually coming beneath Him.
John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Jesus' life more abundantly overpowers the death and destruction of the thief.  Where does the Bible say He is yet to come and accomplish a work in order to rule?  The work is done.  He is seated right now on the throne and is not going to do one more work to see all things subjected to Himself.  The work is done!  Jesus IS Lord!

Jesus is not going to sit on a throne one day, He has been seated on the throne for the last 2000 years.   HE MUST REIGN TILL HE HATH PUT ALL ENEMIES UNDER HIS FEET.
