WILL THE PHYSICAL SUN STOP SHINING ON EARTH,

AND WILL THE PHYSICAL MOON TURN TO BLOOD?

Mike Blume

So many people have read the following verses of scripture and felt the physical and and moon will actually change.

Matthew 24:29 KJV  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Revelation 6:12 KJV  And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

Acts 2:20 KJV  The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

The early church was well aware that these phrases figuratively referred to kingdoms being conquered and ending.  Let's ignore early church culture in Israel, and say that this is not true.  Let's say that the physical light of the physical sun will actually stop shining on earth.  What would happen to the earth if that occurred?  I found these scientific explanations as to what the situation of the earth would experience should such a thing occur.

The Earth cannot drop to Absolute Zero because the universe would keep it above 2.7 K. Without the Sun, the only energy to the surface of the Earth is the heat from it's own interior. All you have to do is go down a kilometer or two and you are already up to a temperature of 140 F or more where deep diamond miners work. If the Sun went away, this would change only a slight amount as the Earth re-adjusts to a heat flow where the outer surface is no longer warmed by the Sun. My guess is that this heat flow is not enough to keep the earth above the freezing point of water, and that after perhaps a month or so, the latent solar heat stored in the oceans and crust would be exhausted. The temperature would stabilize probably somewhere below 200 K and be maintained thereafter by the heat flux from the Earth's interior for a few billion years.

In other words, the earth would become an ICE BALL.  No life could exist.  If the temperature of the earth would stabilize below 200 Kelvin in a month, that would be -99.4 Fahrenheit, or -73 Celsius.  How long before a month elapses would life cease?  It is ridiculous to believe that the actual light of the sun will stop shining on the earth according to this verse.  These verses are speaking figuratively.

Someone told me that night arrives and the earth is not frozen.  What this person failed to remember is the simple fact that light is still shining on the other side of the earth when we have night, and that affects our side of the earth still.  And not only that, it is only for around 12 hours that we have night, as that varies from the seasons.  Even in the far reaches of the north and south, when sunlight is not seen for weeks at a time, the sun is still shining on the rest of the earth as the earth spins.
