Exodus- "The Way Out"

Pastor Roy E. Richmond

PART THREE

OVERVIEW

This is an overview of Exodus to prepare you for the rest of the teachings. Please read it and read the book of Exodus as soon as you can. It helps when you have read what we are teaching.

In chapter 13 there are some explanations of the Feast of Unleavened bread that we will look at. Unleavened Bread is the second feast of the set of feasts called Passover.

Chapter 14 shows the crossing of the Red Sea that we studied. The same crossing that delivered them from the world also destroyed the god of the world, as far as they were concerned. The children of Israel crossed over on dry land and Pharaoh and his army were destroyed.

Chapter 15 is called the Song of Moses and there is a beautiful parallel to this in Revelation 15.

It says in Rev. 15 that they sang the song of Moses. There are a lot of principles there. For instance, in verse 2 of Exodus 15.

2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
Notice: "I will prepare him a habitation." God want us to be His house and we are His house.

In Chapter 16 we have manna, and the falling of manna. In John 6, Jesus said that manna pointed to Him.

The greatest revelation is at the end of this chapter when Aaron and Moses put manna in that golden pot and later placed it in the Ark of the Covenant. That Ark ended up in the Most Holy Place. We know that, according to Rev. 2:17, if we overcome, we will be able to eat of that hidden manna. There is hidden manna in the Most Holy Place, for those who will go behind the veil and enter into the Most Holy Place. This is the realm of a relationship with Him. There we can eat of that manna.

It is a not a relationship with religion or leaning upon the relationship that another person has, but its entrance into a relationship with Christ, yourself, with which we need to be concerned.

SMITE THE ROCK ONLY ONCE

Then we have the 17th chapter. The 17th chapter reads about the time that Moses smote the rock and water flowed out. Here's the principle found there. The smiting of the rock happened twice. In Numbers 20, God told Moses to speak to the rock and the waters would flow. And he smote it a second time. The rock in this passage pictures Jesus. The scripture says that in 1 Corinthians 10. And when Jesus was smitten and afflicted on the cross, the water of life flowed. His death produced life. When we look at Numbers 20 where God told Moses to not smite the rock more than once, we find a principle.

We are the body of Christ and most people say that there will be a river that flows from us, the church. John 7 says that out of our bellies will flow rivers of living water. The truth is that we are in union with that rock. There are people who teach that the way to get that river to flow is to have God beat us.

That is not the correct principle. The true principle is that the river flows from the body of Christ through speaking to it. By way of revelation a clear sounding word will rivers of living water flow from our lives! Are you hearing this? God is saying something. What you are hearing, what is being heard all over the world is going to make the water of Life flow from us who are in union with the rock.

That word "rock" in Numbers 20, the second time a rock was smitten, is a different word from this word "rock" in Genesis. The word in Numbers 20 for "rock," is "elevated rock, lifted rock." It pictures Jesus the rock seated at the right hand of the Father, and ourselves in union with Him.

We are told not to beat it in order to get the river to flow, but to simply speak to it. And that is what God is doing today. He is speaking to those who are in union with the Rock. Can you hear that? Don't think that the troubles you are going through are the result of God trying to beat you up so He can get that water to flow. And don't think that you have to go around beating people up and coming down upon them to get the water to flow. Just speak the Word of God to them. Let it flow out from you. Don't come across with an attitude that you have the water because you are special.

God has a way to chasten you and me and it's with the Word. Not by beating us.

There is a principle that happens at the beginning of verse 8. Do you remember when Moses had to have his hands upheld because of the battle with Amalek? The battle was over the issue of water.

Amalek is the grandson of Esau and Esau always speaks of the flesh. If you will study this passage here, you will find out that when the water starts to flow, the river of life starts to flow. And that message of freedom and life and just drinking of that water freely starts to flow.

Then comes the flesh to battle with the spirit.

The principle in Moses' being upheld is that when the water does start to flow, there has to be a people who lift up the Lord's hands. His hands are the Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors, Teachers. Keep lifting up the ministry. Hold them up constantly, and pray for them. As long as the hands are held up, Amalek is discomfited.

Of Amalek, God says, "For I will utterly put out of remembrance of Amalek from under heaven."

That hasn't happened yet. The flesh is still warring against the Spirit. And you can look down throughout all the history at the times when Amalek showed up. Every time something was going good, there came the flesh.

But God promised, saying, "I will utterly destroy." The flesh is still giving the spirit trouble. It happens when the water starts to flow.

ZIPPORAH'S RESTORATION

Chapter 18 is the restoration of Moses wife Zipporah.

The strangest thing happened in the fourth chapter. God called Moses out of the wilderness in 4:24

And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.

Everything was going great here. There was the burning bush and the signs and wonders. And Moses was on his way. The Bible says that they stopped at the inn and God showed up and said, "Ok, Moses, I'm going to kill you."

That's interesting isn't it?

Verse 25 says,

Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me. 26 So He let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
Here's what happened. Moses had not circumcised his son. The principle is, before you bring deliverance to the house of God, you've got to get your own house in order.

Here is your Father's day sermon for those who wanted a Father's day sermon. Dads, you better get your own house in order before you want to bring deliverance to the house of God. Moses hadn't done that.

In Genesis 17, the sign of circumcision was the sign of the blood covenant, and that son had not been circumcised. So Zipporah was involved in doing the deed and she was some kind of upset!

I don't know how old the son was, but we know she didn't like it. And you never hear of Zipporah from chapter 4 on down to chapter 18. It doesn't look like she went with him to the deliverance.

She is restored in chapter 18. Jethro, her daddy, brings her back and they are restored.

Zipporah's restoration is a type of the restoration of the church.

TWO SONS PRODUCED BY THE CHURCH

Moses and Zipporah then have two sons. One of them is named Gershom and the other one is Eliezer. These speak of what the church, through our heavenly Moses, Jesus, is going to produce.

"Gershom" means "to expel." What does that sound like? Its the death of the old man -- "to get rid of something, to expel." It comes from the root Hebrew word, gaw-rash'; a prim. root; to drive out from a possession; espec. to expatriate or divorce: - cast up (out), divorced (woman), drive away (forth, out), expel, surely put away, trouble, thrust out."

Then "Eliezer" means "God is my help," and that is the second part of the message that we have. First, it is the doing away of the old, and then, the bringing forth of the new.

The old man is gone, we are a new man. God is your help today!

Then chapter 19 gives the story of how God initiates the Priesthood. We'll not get into that at this time. And then chapter 20 gives us the ten commandments.

Jesus fulfilled the law and He wants us to fulfill the law. We can do it by the power of God. Love is the fulfillment of the law. You walk in perfect love you will do this.

BOND SERVANTS

Look at chapter 21

Verses 1 through 6 speak of the law that governed the bond servant.

Let's look at verse 2,

If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
For six thousand years men will serve God. At the seventh day, bond servants leave as free people. That speaks of the year of Jubilee. At the seven thousandth year, we will have jubilee.

Look at verse 5,

And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
In other words, like Paul said, "I don't want to be free. I want to be a bond servant. I want to be a slave of love to Jesus."

Then this is what shall be done.

6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.
How many of you want to be a bond servant?

Take such a person to the door and bore his ear through with an aul. The principle is this: Who is the door? Jesus is the door. He said, "I am the door."

If you want to be a perfect servant, you have to have your ear fastened to the door. Can you see that? That is how you become a perfect servant.

Yes, you can go free. When you make Jesus Christ your Lord, did you know that you never have been more free than you are at that point? Before you made Jesus Christ Lord, you sinned because you had to. After you made Jesus Christ Lord, you sin because you want to. You have a choice now. When you get a new heart and make him Lord, you can still miss it. But if you want to be a love slave to Jesus, then you have to get your ear nailed to Him, where He becomes what you are listening to.

Let us skip from verse 21 to 23. Here are the civil laws the right of the slave. And there are laws regarding the situation in which someone wronged you, and so on, down to chapter 24.
