1Joh 1:1 That which was from
the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which
we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
1Joh 2:7 Brethren, I write no
new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning.
The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
1Joh 2:24 Let that therefore abide
in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard
from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son,
and in the Father.
When we refer to the time of
the beginning we see what John was referring to.
Gene 2:16 And the LORD God commanded
the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But
of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:
for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
- Our faith in God's Word given
to us will keep us from dying and preserve us to eternal life
- 1 John is a quite a fascinating
book
- It refers to the beginning
of Genesis
- It refers to life and death
as Genesis
- It refers to keeping ourselves
as Adam was supposed ot keep the garden
- It even mentions the need
to love our brother and even names Cain in 1 John 3:12!
1 John is written to KEEP US
IN THE SALVATION WHICH WE WILL GET IF WE REPENT, GET BAPTIZED IN JESUS' NAME
AND RECEIVE GOD'S SPIRIT
When we read that Adam was cast
out of the Garden we discover that it was because he disobeyed God.
- God told him to not eat of
the tree of knowledge of good and evil
- Adam was supposed to obey
a truth in order to stay in there.
- TODAY, 1 John tells us that
we must also obey a truth or else we will lose this place with God and be
just as cast out from Him as Adam was from the Garden.
Our truth is that we need to understand
something about Jesus.
- Jesus is the SON OF GOD
1Joh 5:1 Whosoever believeth
that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that
begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
1Joh 4:15 Whosoever shall confess
that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
1Joh 5:5 Who is he that overcometh
the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Why would that be so important
for us to understand?
- What exactly is John saying?
- John is telling us a very
important truth which we might not realize at first glimpse
- He is telling us that JESUS
is right now in the place Adam was in before Adam sinned
- When he describes Jesus
as "The Son of God" he is using a title that Adam had.
Luke 3:38 Which was [the son]
of Enos, which was [the son] of Seth, which was [the son] of Adam, which
was [the son] of God.
1Cor 15:45 And so it is written,
The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening
spirit.
- As Adam was the beginning
of mankind, but fell and all mankind became sinful like him, Jesus is the
ADAM of a new mankind, and if we want to be recipients of eternal life we
had better realize that no other teacher or religious leader of any kind
held the position Jesus has.
- One other man had it, named
Adam, but he became worthless and sinful
- John is telling us that
Jesus is the only new Adam and is head over new creation, and if we want
to have eternal life we had better realize that and make sure we become one
of his people.
When Adam should have put the
life from the tree of life into himself, but didn't, Jesus has the life in
Him.
1Joh 5:11 And this is the record,
that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
- Where Adam had fellowship
with God, but lost it, Jesus has it
1Joh 1:3 That which we have seen
and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us:
and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
- John said he stuck with Jesus
and therefore had fellowship with God
- And if we want to have fellowship
with God you must believe that Jesus is the Son of God - THE NEW ADAM
- All the rest of mankind
who will not acecpt Jesus are simply not part of the New Humanity and New
Creation, and therefore do not have eternal life
- They are not in the fellowship
with God
John 17:21 That they all may be
one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one
in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
- Jesus spoke of salvation
like He did because only those who obey Him will have the joy fulfilled in
them.
John 17:13 And now come I to thee;
and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled
in themselves.
- John wrote so that we might
have joy, also
1Joh 1:4 And these things write
we unto you, that your joy may be full.
- DO NOT LEAVE THIS FELLOWSHIP
- If you stop living for Jesus,
you cut yourself off from the eternal life that Adam was cut off from.
- Adam failed to get that
Life, but Jesus as Last Adam HAD IT
- Jesus did not lose His kingdom
like Adam did
- But if you leave His Kingdom,
you leave the Life
- We must stick with Jesus
and and keep joy
- The last Adam is there to
stay, but his brothers, us, must ensure that we stay
If Adam had not sinned and had
chioldren, those children still would have a choice themselves to stay or
leave the Garden and fellowship with God.
- We trust they would have
had enough sense to stay
- But at any rate, Jesus is
filled with Life and He is not going to leave. We must ensure we do not
leave.
- Over and over, John repeats
that Jesus is the NEW ADAM.
1Joh 2:24-25 Let that therefore abide
in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard
from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son,
and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, [even]
eternal life.
1Joh 4:9 In this was manifested
the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into
the world, that we might live through him.
- We live through Him
- He has fruit of life
- He is one with the Father
- Stick to Him!!
- He plucks fruit from the
tree of life, as it were, and gives it to us.
- Stick with this Adam who
never fails!
1Joh 4:17 Herein is our love made
perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he
is, so are we in this world.
- Stick with Him and be in
vicotry as he is when judgment comes
- It is like a grand test
- At the end, all who stuck
to Him will be those who truly loved Him.
- God told Adam to subdue
the earth.
Gene 1:28 And God blessed them,
and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth,
and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl
of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
- And in 1 John, we see a restoration
of this blessing
1Joh 5:4-5 For whatsoever is born
of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the
world, [even] our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that
believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
- If we believe Jesus is Son
of God, then we have experienced the Gospel
- And we are sons of God
- Stick to Him
1Joh 5:10-12 He that believeth on
the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath
made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his
Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and
this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath
not the Son of God hath not life.
- Believe the RECORD!!!
- Our command is to believe
Jesus is SON, or else we will interest ourselves in the world and slip away
from Garden and die.
Serpent came to see Adam and Eve
die.
Gene 3:1-4 Now the serpent was
more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And
he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree
of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit
of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the
midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall
ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not
surely die:
John warned us similarly:
1Joh 2:22-26 Who is a liar but he
that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the
Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father:
[(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also]. Let that therefore
abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have
heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the
Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us,
[even] eternal life. These [things] have I written unto you concerning them
that seduce you.
- Jesus is CHRIST
- Christ means ANOINTED ONE
- Adam was ANOINTED to rule
because KINGS are anointed.
- Believe that Jesus is the
ANOINTED ONE
- He is not just another religious
leader.
- He is the NEW ADAM
- The ANOINTED ONE, ANOINTED
TO RULE
- God gave that title to no
one since Adam fell, until Jesus.
