"STAND STILL AND SEE GOD'S GLORY"

In February I touched upon Israel seeing the Red Sea defeat of Pharaoh, but I want to dig into this issue some more.

Luke 9:28-36 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment [was] white [and] glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept [it] close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

Peter, James and John grew to become Jesus’ “inner circle.”

· They saw this event and were later the same ones who went with Jesus into the Garden of Gethsemane before Jesus was crucified.
· Perhaps because of this event when they saw His glory, they were stronger than the rest and could go with Jesus during His hard time in the Garden.

When they saw Jesus transfigured, they also saw Moses and Elijah speaking with Jesus about a particular thing.

HIS DECEASE.

They discussed the death that He should experience in Jerusalem.

We know this death was necessary to see mankind saved.

An interesting note about this picture is that the Greek word for “decease” is EXODOS.

Moses and Elijah spoke with Jesus about HIS "EXODOS".
This is the same word used to entitle the second book in the Old Testament that contained the most perfect parallel of the Church and salvation in the New Testament.
EXODUS.

DECEASE: Translated from the Greek word "exodos" {ex'-od-os}
1) exit i.e. departure
2) the close of one's career, one's final fate
3) departure from life, decease

Peter, James and John were permitted to watch this transfiguration.

They saw something wonderful.
Moses was the one who led the Exodus of old.

We are being brought up into a high mountain apart from the cares of the world for a time.

· God is speaking to us in church.
· We are apart from the things of the world this morning.
· We are alone with Jesus.
· And Jesus begins to show us His glory.
· In church we see His glory, whereas the world sees him as a common man.
· Church is so vital to our walk with God.

When we see His glory, we also hear words concerning His decease.

· His EXODOS.
· And since we know we died with Him, it is actually some things about our deaths that we see.
· When we hear of His death and our deaths, we then see His glory.
· He is glorified in words concerning His decease.
· He is glorified because the entire work of dying and us dying with Him is of Him, and not of ourselves.
· The death of Jesus saved us from this world.
· We could not save ourselves.
· It is not of works lest any man should boast, but by his grace He saved us.

And THE EXODUS of Israel was a complete work of God also, without Israel saving themselves.

We need to SEE Him glorified as we look at the EXODOS.

We need to see that Satan’s back was broken when Jesus Christ died.

All this is shown perfectly in Israel’s EXODUS.

When God spoke to Israel through Isaiah, he told them to look at the hole they were dug from.

Isai 51:1 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock [whence] ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit [whence] ye are digged.

He is speaking to them while they are in the worrisome state of fear, not knowing where to turn.

Isai 51:9-10 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. [Art] thou not it that hath cut Rahab, [and] wounded the dragon? [Art] thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

He tells them it is going to be alright.

Just remember what I did for you when I divided the Red Sea.

Isai 51:12-16 I, [even] I, [am] he that comforteth you: who [art] thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man [that] shall die, and of the son of man [which] shall be made [as] grass; And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where [is] the fury of the oppressor? The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail. But I [am] the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of hosts [is] his name. And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou [art] my people.

He tells them to recall how He defeated Pharaoh at the Red Sea.

When you are fearful and afraid of circumstances, just look back to the time God saved you and destroyed the power Satan had over your life.

Exod 3:18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

Three days’ journey.

And God destroyed the power of Pharaoh against Israel after that time.

The devil is afraid of you because of what happened when God saved you.

Jericho was an enemy in the promised land where Israel was to dwell.
As Israel was going to the promised land, God saved us out of the world to return to the Garden of eden where Satan deceived Adam and caused him to be thrown out.
Its as if Satan took over the Garden and we have to return and throw him out.
Abraham was given that land, and his people went into Egypt during a time of famine in Joseph’s day.
God was bringing Israel back to their land.
But enemies had filled the land since Abraham’s people left.
Listen to what Rahab said about the enemy of Israel in the land where Israel was going.

Josh 2:9-11 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that [were] on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard [these things], our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he [is] God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

Satan knows what happened at Calvary when Jesus died.

· When the real EXODOS began.
· We need to know the devil is afraid of us.
· Not because we have a nice church and are getting ready to build a big one down the road.
· But because of what happened when Jesus died and we died with Him.
· HE WAS DEFEATED.

You need to know that Satan is afraid of you because of that experience.

1Cor 10:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

They were united in Moses through that “baptism” at the Red Sea.

· We are buried with Christ and united to Him in that experience.
· It is one BODY with many MEMBERS, just as Israel and Moses were considered one person with Moses as Head.

1Cor 12:12-13 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

We are baptized in Jesus’ name.

Satan fears that we learn this.

· We are threats to Him since we who are born again are IN CHRIST.
· We are in union with Him.
· That means that when the devil faces us then he faces Jesus Christ and all the power that Jesus Christ has is our’s to use against him.
· He knows he cannot resist Jesus’ power.
· But the reason he defeats so many believers is because they have not SEEN JESUS’ GLORY SHOWN FORTH IN HIS DEATH WITH US AND OUR UNIONS WITH HIM THROUGH THAT.
That is why I need to teach you to SEE THIS.

Roma 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

What happened that gives us the benefit of not sinning any more?

The answer is the next verse.

Roma 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

INTO HIS DEATH.

· The reason we are speaking so much of JESUS’ DECEASE, JESUS’ EXODOS, is because we were baptized into HIS DEATH.
· And according to Paul in this chapter, this has everything to do with the fact that we do not have to continue in sin and serve the devil and be defeated.
· We really need to see something.
· If you cannot “get this”, and are wondering what Jesus’ death has to do with you not sinning, then YOU HAVE NOT SEEN SOMETHING CLOSELY ENOUGH.

Satan is successful against people who call themselves Christians because of their LACK OF UNDERSTANDING.

Hose 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

He works in the realm of ignorance.

Colo 2:10-15 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

These verses say that the devil was made a fool and made a show by the death of Jesus.

· And that death of Jesus included you and I who were buried with Him and risen with Him through our baptism in His name.
· The water did not do it.
· The faith in our unions with Him did it.

Exod 14:1 -2 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.

When the Red Sea event was about to occur, God told Moses “Pharaoh thinks you will be messed up and entangled.

· He knows that you were freed from him by the death of the Lamb.
· But he chases you thinking you will get all entangled.

Church, the devil is thriving on the ignorance of God’s people.

· He thinks you will get bogged down and stuck in traditions and entangled in a rut of just attending church.
· But there are people who are not allowing themselves to get entangled in dead and useless rituals.
· There are people who are seeing that it is FAITH IN THEIR DEATHS WITH JESUS THAT DEFEATS THE DEVIL.
· They are going on to a Canaan and land of Promise and a REST, and know how to get there.
· There are people who are starting to see what God wants in them.
· He wants more than Church-goers.
· He wants people to see revelations of His will.
· People who see things in the Spirit.
· People who know what God did for them when he saved them.
· Too many do not know this.
· They only JOINED A CHURCH and never got a revelation of WHAT JESUS DID FOR THEM.
· And the first thing we have to experience before we go onward like that is the following:

Exod 14:10-14 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD. And they said unto Moses, Because [there were] no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? [Is] not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For [it had been] better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness. And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

WE NEED TO STAND STILL AND SEE THIS!

Satan pursues and gets people all in a fluster.

· God says we need to stand still every now and then and SEE SOMETHING.
· SEE the victory GOD WROUGHT FOR US.
· Pharaoh was defeated by all the plagues and finally the death of his firstborn.
· But he still pursues.
· He still works the same today.
· He is defeated but he will pursue you.
· Then is when you need to UNDERSTAND SOME THINGS.
· YOU NEED TO SEE SOMETHING.

Many start to live for God and Satan attacks in the form of pressure from friends and family.

· Many quit then, like Israel taking the attitude that they should have stayed in Egypt and died in sin.
· They are convinced they cannot make it.
· When they went to traditional church, they felt safe, no attacks from the devil , their families approved of them.
· But getting in this Pentecostal way is a bit too odd for them.
· It’s the devil trying to get you back.

YOU WILL BE UNITED TO THE LORD AND HE WILL FIGHT FOR YOU.

· He died FOR you.
· That means you died with Him.
· He did the work, but its considered yours, too.
· HE FIGHTS FOR YOU.
· He is united to you and He defeats the devil and you can say YOU DEFEATED THE DEVIL.

Then God took the devil’s own powers away from him.

Exod 14:21-26 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go [back] by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry [land], and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry [ground]: and the waters [were] a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, [even] all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians. And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

He disarmed Pharaoh and destroyed the army.

· Took chariot wheels off their chariots.
· Disarmed them.

Exod 14:31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

You need to stand still every now and then AND LOOK AT THIS.

Satan is not defeated to everyone.

· Only those who died with Christ have Satan under them.

When you see this you will see how weakened Satan is.

Isai 14:16-17 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, [and] consider thee, [saying, Is] this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; [That] made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; [that] opened not the house of his prisoners?

You thought he was a great power, but you see he is a defeated foe when you see the work of the cross.

David saw Goliath challenge Saul and all Israel, and Saul rebuked David to not even think to try to go after Goliath.

But David told Saul:

1Sam 17:34-37 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered [it] out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught [him] by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

When the enemy faced David he looked back to the initial victories he had through God’s power.

1Sam 17:45-48 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle [is] the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands. And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

DAVID RAN TO THE ENEMY.

He reminded all Israel that IT IS GOD’S FIGHT LIKE IT WAS WHEN HE FIRST SAVED US.
