DESTROYING
THE DEVIL’S WORKS
WITH THE REVELATION OF JESUS

October 15, 2000 am

1 John 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Romans 16:19-20  For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Both scriptures repeat the same truth.  Jesus Christ would be manifested to destroy the works of the devil.  We become WISE to the truth and see God bruise Satan beneath our feet.
• To be manifested is to be revealed.
• To be made known.
• To become WISE is to LEARN.

Earlier on we studied that the same day when Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead, He made Himself known to the disciples by the breaking of bread.
• Luke 24 shows us that he took bread, blessed it, then broke it and gave it to the disciples to eat.

Luke 24:30-31  And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Luke 24:35  And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

Jesus was revealed or manifested to them in the breaking of bread.
• The book of Acts says that on the first day of the week Paul preached and the people broke bread.
• You could say that breaking bread is feasting on the word of God for the Word is our living bread that we feed upon.

There have been more wonderful truths of our salvation opened up to my heart in the Book of Revelation than I have ever seen before.

Several past sermons are coming together now making God’s work of saving man by Jesus so very much more clearer to us.

This book, the Revelation of Jesus Christ, reads that Jesus took the little sealed book in Rev, 5:7.

Revelation 5:7  And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
He Blessed it as worship and praise went forth after he took it.
Revelation 5:8-10  And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
And then He broke the book open in Revelation 6 as the seals were broken off it.
Revelation 6:1  And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
And then he gave it to be eaten
Revelation 10:9-10  And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take [it], and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
In John’s symbolic series of visions, the sealed and then unsealed book is the revelation of Jesus Christ (1:1).
Jesus is revealed when the book is unsealed.
And after the seals are broken, after Jesus is manifested, faithful to the truth that John spoke in our opening text, the works of the devil were destroyed.

After the seven seals in revelation come the seven trumpets of destruction.
In fact, the seven trumpets begin sounding just at the opening of the seventh seal.

Revelation 8:1-2 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
And when these trumpets start sounding, destruction occurs.

The bible tells the story of the Exodus from the land of Egypt, and their passage through the wilderness until they came to the Promised Land.
• One problem existed.
• When Israel sent 12 spies to check out the land, only two returned with a positive report.
• So God banished them all in the wilderness for another 40 years until the adults at the first experience of doubting to enter the land were dead.

And almost as if to not repeat the mistake of forty years earlier, Joshua sends only two spies this time, perhaps since only two were faithful beforehand.
• And the two spies come into a city called JERICHO.
• Israel then is ready to enter the land, and we read this:

Joshua 6:4-5  And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
Seven priests took seven ram’s horns, or TRUMPETS, and blew those trumpets around Jericho, and on the seventh day, brought destruction upon the city.
• Upon the city that obstructed their passage into their land of promise...
• Upon the city that withstood them and opposed them...
• DESTRUCTION came as the priests blew 7 TRUMPETS and the people shouted.
• The walls fell flat.
• They got seven trumpets of destruction from rams.

We read about seven trumpets in Revelation that also bring destruction after we read of JESUS REPRESENTED AS A LAMB WITH SEVEN HORNS.

Revelation 5:6  And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Ram’s supplied the priests of Israel with seven trumpets.
• And the lamb of God, Jesus Christ, had seven horns.
• While seen with seven horns, He takes the book that represents the revelation of HIMSELF.
• And when that book is opened and made manifest, seven trumpets cause destruction.

The GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST is the truth of the only plan of salvation that God revealed to mankind.
• It is the NEW COVENANT.
• This New Covenant is much different than the Old Covenant or Old Testament.
• Isaiah had this to say about the New Covenant.

Isaiah 42:6  I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
The Father is prophesied to speak to the Son and say that He would GIVE JESUS CHRIST TO BE A COVENANT to the people.
• Jesus, Himself, is the covenant.
• It is not about Him, but it IS HIM.

He repeats this...

Isaiah 49:8  Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
No wonder we read that it is the Revelation of Jesus Christ in Rev. 1:1.

And the revelation of the covenant is the revelation of Jesus Christ, because HE IS THE COVENANT given to the people.
• And as Isaiah foretold that He would be given, we know that when Jesus gave bread it was only after he took it, blessed it and then broke it that it could in fact be given.

John informs us in his epistle that Jesus was made manifest.
• In other words, the covenant was made manifest, because He is the covenant.
• When the seals were broken, the covenant was revealed.
• It was “revelated”.
• It was made manifest.
• And this covenant which is JESUS is made manifest to destroy the works of the devil.

When you have the word of God opened up to you, when you understand the revelation of Jesus Christ, the Gospel, in all its glory and power, the works of the devil will be destroyed in you!

Since JESUS is the New Covenant, then the more you understand the covenant that God made with mankind through the cross, the more you understand JESUS.

The people in the exodus had personal troubles that came forth during the wilderness time of BREAKING.
• That always occurs as God leads us forwards.
• We go through a breaking as we learn more and more as each seal, as it were, is being broken open so that we learn that much more about Jesus.
• But when we fully understand the Gospel, the SEVEN SEALS, meaning COMPLETE CLOSURE, are removed, then we fully know the work of the cross of our salvation, and THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL WILL BE DESTROYED.

After Israel went through the breaking, they came to their land of promise.
• It was their land.
• And in their land was a work of the devil that had to be destroyed.
• Jericho stands for any condemning thought, any opposition, any obstacle that blocks you from the promises of God given in that covenant that has been fully opened to you, for you.
• And once you have JESUS, the covenant, revealed and manifested to you, you spiritually take his seven horns, that mean, his full power in the Gospel for you, and blow those trumpets and watch the obstruction destroyed.

Blowing trumpets means revealing truth....

Isaiah 58:1  Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people...
You use the WORD of YOUR TESTIMONY that you received as that covenant was made known to you, and destroy what the devil has accomplished.

Rahab the harlot in Jericho told the spies...

Joshua 2:9-11  And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.   And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
The enemy was afraid of Israel ever since God dealt with the Red Sea.
Paul said that our water Baptism when we are first saved is like the Red Sea being opened up.
1Corinthians 10:1-3  Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
• And the devil has been afraid of us ever since.
• But when the enemy in Canaan was afraid, the people of God who first came to Canaan 40 years earlier were also afraid thinking the enemy would destroy them.
• In that land was an obstacle of DECEPTION from the enemy.
• He was afraid.
• But he made them think they would lose.
• And that deception had to be destroyed when Joshua’s turn came to enter the land.

He took seven ram’s horns and blew them to see the deception DESTROYED.
• The enemy is defeated and has been defeated since the time of the Red Sea salvation of our baptism into Jesus.
• But because the revelation of Jesus was not fully made known to us an revealed to us, we were easily deceived.
• But when you know the truth you are made free.

When that truth is FULLY OPENED up to us, we can absolutely pummel the devil’s works that deceived us earlier.
• We take the FULL TRUTHS of the Lamb’s salvation for us, and we SOUND OUT THAT TRUTH and every obstacle in our souls is destroyed.
• The very thoughts of inability or condemnation nothing more than the works of the devil in our very own minds!

Revelation 8:7-12   The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
Like a veritable WORLD is smashed, as

  1. first the green plants,
  2. then the salt water,
  3. then the fresh water
  4. and then the heavens are hit by the sounding of the trumpets,
A FALSE WORLD OF DEVIL’S DECEPTION IS DESTROYED BY THE SOUNDING OF THE TRUTH.
• A false reality.

The land of Canaan was Israel’s land given by God to enjoy.
• And they destroyed the works of the enemy by blowing those seven trumpets to enter and enjoy the land.

God has promises in His word, that when you have them revealed to you, and you fully learn about Jesus’ salvation for you, you will pound the devil’s works of deception and remove them so you can enjoy those blessings.

Your own blessings are kept away from you by long-term misunderstandings and deceptions in your very mind.
• That kingdom of lies within you must be destroyed.
• Every reason that holds a person back from salvation is nothing more than a part of Satan’s deceptions to keep you out of His blessed promised land.

You were made a priest by this sacrificial Lamb of all Lambs’ salvation.
• Priests blew the seven trumpets and destroyed Jericho.
Isaiah 42:6-10  I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
He will give JESUS as a covenant for the people.
• But the giving comes AFTER the taking, blessing, and then the breaking.

And just as Israel defeated the kingdoms in Canaan and declared that the land was their own land, we read...

Revelation 11:15  And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
We can shout aloud that once we have pummeled every deceptive lie from the devil, destroyed all his works, that the BLESSINGS OF THE PROMISED LAND ARE OUR’S to enjoy!
• Confusion no longer rules us.
• Condemnation no longer hammers our minds.

Isaiah said the former things are passed away and new things are declared.
• Paul said...

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Many believers do not know that and allow condemnation from their pasts and experiences from their pasts to still affect them today.
• But the ones who learn the covenant, discover that none of that applies to them any more!
Isaiah 42:10  Sing unto the LORD a new song,
After the lamb took the book, we read...
Revelation 5:9  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Isaiah 49:8  Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

The first great act of Satan, that Christ is revealed and manifested to destroy, was the banishment of Adam and Eve from the Garden, where God created mankind to be.
• As Abraham actually lived in the land of Canaan before Israel became slaves in Egypt, and his descendants returned to reclaim and inherit the desolate heritages that were once their own, Jesus Christ came to return us to the Garden of Eden’s fellowship with God, to INHERIT THE DESOLATE HERITAGES lost long ago.

And the words of Isaiah that said, “To establish the earth” actually means “to RESTORE THE LAND.”
• When you haven’t come to Jesus, you’re still outside the Garden and your heritage sits desolate.
• Because every human being is meant to be in that Garden.
• Your desolate heritage is only regained when you receive Christ as the New Testament, so you can sing a new song!

And you saints of God who are living in defeat so much of your lives need to receive the full and complete understandings of Jesus, and take the FULL POWER OF JESUS CHRIST –– seven trumpets from the lamb’s horns, and destroy every obstruction that keeps you outside of all God’s blessings.
