"ABSORBING JESUS INTO OUR EXPERIENCE"
NOVEMBER 1, 1998 AM
MICHAEL F BLUME
Exod 12:1-10 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month [shall be] unto you the beginning of months: it [shall be] the first month of the year to you. Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth [day] of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of [their] fathers, a lamb for an house: And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take [it] according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take [it] out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike [it] on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; [and] with bitter [herbs] they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast [with] fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. Exod 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye [are]: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy [you], when I smite the land of Egypt.
Exod 12:21-22 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip [it] in the blood that [is] in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that [is] in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
Exod 12:43-48 And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This [is] the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof: But every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof. In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
1Cor 5:7 Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, even as ye are unleavened. For our passover also hath been sacrificed, [even] Christ:
God told Moses that the month of the Passover, when God delivered them from Egypt, would be to Israel, from then on, the beginning of the year. - Paul said that our Passover is Jesus Christ.
- He is the lamb whose blood was shed to free us from death.
- When we experience His salvation we then have a new beginning.
- To us it will be the beginning.
This story of Exodus' beginning is a pattern of God's work in the lives of true christians. - The New Testament teaches us that the death of Jesus Christ is the everything.
- It is the centre of the universe of things of any meaning.
- Nothing is as important as the death of Jesus Christ, because He died as us so that we might have all spiritual blessings that exist in heavenly places, Heaven and eternal life.
This world is in a state of death. - God sees people who are not saved as dead people.
- There is nothing to them.
- He told Adam not to eat of the forbidden fruit, and that the day Adam might eat of it, would be the day he would die.
- Adam ate, and as far as God is concerned, Adam died.
Ephe 2:1 And you [hath he quickened], who were dead in trespasses and sins;
God desires to resurrect, or quicken, us out of this death of a life of sins.
And then He desires to change us. - What does He want to change us into?
- In this world is a humanity that is really in a mess.
- Problems are abounding and people are committing suicide and hurting one another.
- God did not create us to be like this.
- But the reason the world is like this is because humanity died so long ago.
- The coming of Jesus Christ was to change all of that.
- It is unfortunate that not everyone is taking advantage of this gift from God.
God provided a way for us to escape this death and begin to be changed. - He desires to change us into the type of people He originally created us to be, before we fell into death.
- And when Jesus Christ came, that man was the kind of people He desired us to be like.
So first we have to escape this dead humanity. - God made the way possible to begin to be changed and escape this dead human race.
- But that way is only found in one single place.
- It is only found in one particular means.
- The death of Jesus Christ.
That is why the Exodus pattern of the work of God surrounded the thought of a lamb being killed with its blood put on a doorway. - People would enter that doorway and escape the death that came to slay all Egypt.
- Jesus is the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world.
- John the Baptist revealed that.
- Since it is a doorway, and it is surrounded by a lamb's blood, we see a perfect picture of getting into a new humanity.
- Entering into Christ.
All old humanity came out of Adam. - It came from his side where God took the rib and made the woman.
- Now we have to get out of Adam and get into Christ and begin all over again, and come forth as new creatures.
- So entering the doorways that were surrounded with blood is a picture of leaving Adam and entering into Christ.
The term in Christ is throughout the New Testament, and hard ot be understood at first glance.
- We must enter into Christ because we need to come forth from out of Him as all the human race came out of Adam's side.
- Eve came from his side, and then Adam and Eve had children who filled the world.
- So we must get out of Adam, begin again, and come out of Jesus Christ's side.
Reve 3:14 And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:
Jesus is the origin of the new creation of God. - Adam was the beginning point or the origin of the old creation.
And entering the doors surrounded by blood shows entering into Christ so that we can become new creatures, and begin to be changed. God told Moses, this time of the Passover will be the beginning for you from now on.
- This time of Passover will begin the new year.
- Jesus is our beginning.
And once we are in Jesus Christ we will begin to be changed. - We will be changed into what He is.
- We will be changed into the kind of people God originally created us to be like.
- People who are not hurting one another and not suffering all the time from worry and stress.
- He took Israel out of the whippings of the slavery they lived in by setting them free through entering the doorways surrounded by blood and freeing them from Egypt.
- This shows the misery God takes us out of .
The interesting thing was that the same lamb that was killed, and bereft of its blood to put around the doorways is the lamb they had to eat once they were inside the house.
- Jesus is our passover.
- We get Into Christ, but then we must also have Christ in us.
- Notice we always read about us in Him first, and then He in us.
- We enter into Him first, and then He begins to manifest more and more in our lives.
- We enter the blood-stained doorway and get into Him first, and then we eat the Lamb and put Him in us second.
John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing.
John 14:20 In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
Once we are in Jesus, and begin a new existence, we must begin to be changed into what He is. - What is in Him must be in us.
- He must be in us.
- We have the Holy Ghost, but I am speaking about His ways into our behaviours when I say that He needs to get into us second.
- He is in us as the Spirit before this occurs, but I am saying that we need to absorb Him into our experience.
- He gives us the Holy Ghost so that we can become like Him.
- You are what you eat.
- This symbolizes that the kind of person Jesus was, without hang-ups and worries and fears, with victory and power, is what we must take into ourselves so that we are changed into the same kind of person.
Christians and sinners both need to know what the aspect of eating Christ means. - It is taking him into ourselves so that we become the kind of person like He as a man is.
Ephe 1:16-17 cease not to give thanks for you, making mention [of you] in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him;
We need to see Him. - We need to realize that what is true about Him is true about us.
- We entered the doorway of blood when we believed Jesus had to die in our places as us, and that we had to believe that.
- And that connected everything that is true about Him to our own lives.
- We died with Him by that faith.
- We were connected with everything He was and experienced as a man.
- As a man He was buried, so we were buried with Him.
- Water baptism is all about that.
- Burial with Jesus.
- And when He resurrected we were raised with Him.
- And He has a whole lot of power now and victory over every enemy.
We need to see Him as He is so that we can learn more about what we have going for us now.
- Paul said we need the spirit of revelation.
- The spirit of unveiling.
- The spirit of insight to know all that He has so that we can find out all that we have.
It all surrounds the Lord's death.
- On the night of the Passover before the day of His crucifixion, Jesus showed the disciples what the Passover for the last 1,500 years was really pointing to.
- Him and His death for them.
- And He said that the bread they eat at passover is symbolic of His flesh.
- And they were to eat His flesh.
- In other words, we see again, that they were to become, as people, what He was.
- They were to devour all that understanding and claim His attributes as their own.
- The wine Israel drank for 1,500 years since Exodus, was pointing towards the need to drink His blood.
- In other words, to take into them the same life that He lived by.
- To become more and more like Him.
- To be changed into people like Him.
We need our eyes opened to see Him.
- Paul said we need a spirit of revelation.
- Revelation means UNVEILING.
- That is exactly why we read this in the exodus story:
Circumcision was removal of a veil of flesh from a male.
Roma 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh: but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Circumcision was another representation of the true work God wanted to do in the hearts of all His people. - Remove a veil from the heart.
- Paul said that we need a spirit of unveiling.
- We need eyes to see.
Ephe 1:17-18 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
God said that no male can eat this lamb unless they have been circumcised. - In other words, you cannot SEE, unless the veil has been removed from your eyes.
- You cannot see what Jesus is that we are.
- You cannot begin to see that unless you are first into Him and then given grace of revelation or unveiling.
You are complete.
- You then have all you need to handle anything.
Ephe 1:19-23 And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places], Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
This says that God has power towards us, for our sakes, in the same degree that His power was when it raised Christ from the dead, and put Him in all this victory. - And then 2:1 says that God quickened us from the death we were in.
- He was in a death of a tomb.
- But we were just as dead in trespasses and sins.
Colo 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
We are complete in Him. - All that is in Him is ours and makes us complete.
But that is all hidden in Him. Colo 2:2-3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
It is a mystery because it is hidden in Him. - Lets make it a solved case!
- See what is in Him.
You find out you have power over the devil when you find out that Jesus is above all principality and power. - So you start using that power and claiming it as your very own.
But you cannot experience unless you first see.
- And you cannot see unless you first enter.
- And you cannot enter unless you die with Him and believe you are utterly lost until you so much believe that He had to die for you to be freed that you make a choice to serve Him for the rest of your lives.
