UNPLUGGING WELLS AND
PULLING THORNS FROM VINEYARDS

  Scripture Text:

Genesis 26:12-15 KJV  Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.  (13)  And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:  (14)  For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.  (15)  For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

Isaiah 5:1-5 KJV  Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:  (2)  And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.  (3)  And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.  (4)  What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?  (5)  And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

  Message:

Bro Simmons message this morning noted one of the most clearly spoken thoughts of the importance of praise and manifestation of our heart's faith I have ever heard.
  • And it opened up some scriptures the Lord laid on my heart weeks ago, which I struggled to understand more clearly.
  • I want to speak on that issue tonight, in conjunction with what Bro Simmons preached.

Jesus said that we are intended to be as though we are carrying a well of living water within us, that springs up into everlasting life.

John 4:12-14 KJV  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?  (13)  Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  (14)  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

And John 7:37-39 informs us he speaks of the gift of the Holy Ghost that we receive when we believe as the scriptures say we need to believe.

John 7:37-39 KJV  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  (38)  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  (39)  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Abraham is considered the father of the faithful.
  • You might not be a physical descendent of Abraham, but if you walk in the steps of the faith that Abraham walked in, you are considered a child of Abraham who would be a blessing to the world, and inherit the world.

And so this son of Abraham, named Isaac, represents ourselves, as well as Jesus Christ whom we know as the SEED of Abraham.
  • And as a child of Abraham, Isaac went forth and repeated many of Abraham's experiences, even some bad ones and doubtful ones.
  • But one of the many good things Isaac repeated was to obtain water form the same wells that Abraham dug in his day.
  • But in order to do this, Isaac's men had to UNPLUG those wells.
  • The Philistines had plugged them up after Abraham was away form the region.

Genesis 26:18 KJV  And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

These wells were given names originally by Abraham.

Genesis 26:19-20 KJV  And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.  (20)  And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.

When Isaac set forth to dig the wells that Abraham enjoyed, the enemy Philistines had not only plugged them up in the first place, but then set forth to fight with Isaac over those wells.
  • So much so that Isaac named the well ESEK, which means STRIFE.
  • And he went on to dig another well.

Genesis 26:21 KJV  And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

SITNAH means HATRED.

You would think he would do what many people think to do when the enemy stirs up like that -- stop digging wells.
  • That is what the enemy wants us to do.

The WELLS of living water represents the FLOWING FORTH OF GOD'S SPIRIT FROM OUR LIVES.
  • Jesus said the Well is the Holy Ghost.
  • But He said that well needs to flow UPWARD INTO EVERLASTING LIFE.
  • This well within us is EVERLASTING LIFE to OTHERS!

Ezekiel 47:1 KJV  Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.

Ezekiel 47:9 KJV  And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.

Things LIVE wherever the water touches.

And the enemy knows that IF THIS SPIRIT INSIDE US CAN FLOW OUTWARD FROM OUR LIVES TO TOUCH OTHERS, OTHERS WILL LIVE.
  • And he knows they will leave his kingdom of death and come into light and life.

But ISAAC HAD TO DIG THE WELLS FREE OF THE PLUGGING ELEMENT.
  • Our lives can be PLUGGED up with things the enemy uses to stop the flow of the well.
  • It  is up to us to UNPLUG our lives.
  • We were made of the dust of the ground.
  • And we must dig into this earth and unplug the wells!

The devil plugged up the ground, soil of Adam and Eve.
  • He put another fruit in their hands to ingest and plug them up and fill them them with something other than the LIFE God wanted to fill them with from the fruit of Life.
  • And that FRUIT THEY ATE had seeds in it.
  • The fruit of Life has seeds in it.
  • That is what makes FRUIT "FRUIT".
  • Seeds are planted in our lives and they are meant to grow and bring forth MORE FRUIT.

Luke 8:5-8 KJV  A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.  (6)  And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.  (7)  And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.  (8)  And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

We receive a WORD/SEED from someone, and it gets into our hearts.
  • Now God wants the seed to grow and come forth from us.
  • AND FRUIT WILL COME FORTH FROM US.

Hebrews 13:15 KJV  By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Proverbs 18:20 KJV  A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

And the devil sows THORNS and TARES in the night times of of our lives.

Matthew 13:24-25 KJV  Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:  (25)  But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

Our lives can have thorns in them that plug up our soil from the good seed to grow.

Luke 8:14 KJV  And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

And this brings us to Isaiah 5.
  • Israel was a vineyard.
  • The people of Israel HIS PLEASANT PLANT.
  • And if the people are his plants, then what are the GRAPES?
  • Things that come forth from our lives.
  • Words and actions.
  • WE MUST MANIFEST THE TRUTH OF GOD.

In fact the day Jesus came to Jerusalem as THEIR KING, we find he said this upon his rejection that day.

Matthew 21:5 KJV  Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

Matthew 21:15 KJV  And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,

Matthew 21:33 KJV  Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

And what happened when the messengers were sent to gather fruit?
  • Instead of fruit they were beaten and scourged and slain.
  • And when Jesus came, we read ...

Matthew 21:38-39 KJV  But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.  (39)  And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

The same event is spoken of in John 12.

John 12:12-15 KJV  On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,  (13)  Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.  (14)  And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,  (15)  Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

But they rejected Him.

John 12:37-41 KJV  But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:  (38)  That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?  (39)  Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,  (40)  He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.  (41)  These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

We just read Isaiah 5 speaking about that day, but notice what Isaiah 6 says in light of John 12:41.
  • John 12:40 quotes Isaiah 6:10.
  • John 12:41 says Isaiah saw Jesus' glory when He foretold this.

Isaiah 6:1-4 KJV  In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.  (2)  Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.  (3)  And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.  (4)  And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

The door moved and the THRESHOLD SHOOK.

Isaiah 6:5-7 KJV  Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.  (6)  Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:  (7)  And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

While the door's threshold ROCKS at the glory inside this temple, as though the glory inside wanted to get out and be released, ISAIAH SAYS HIS LIPS ARE UNCLEAN!
  • Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost.
  • And Isaiah's MOUTH was like the TEMPLE THRESHOLD.
  • The POSTS OF THE DOOR are like HIS LIPS.

God's glory wants to shine out.
  • The temple doors rock and quake at the need.
  • OUR MOUTHS are the doorways.
  • But they can be unclean and unfit.
  • BUT LOOK!

The seraphim crying holy took a coal from the altar and put it on his lips!
  • The altar of incense was full of coals to burn incense with.
  • And Instead of a censer full of incense to put the coals in and let the incense burn and send forth the fragrance, ISAIAH'S MOUTH BECOMES A CENSER.
  • HE MUST SPEAK!

We need to be PURGED.
  • We need to dig up our wells.
  • We need to uproot the thorns!
  • LET OUT GOD'S WORD!!!!

And Isaiah was told to preach until the cities of the rejecters be destroyed.
  • People will be destroyed should they reject the gospel.
  • BUT SOMEONE HAS TO TELL THEM.
  • GIVE THEM A CHANCE!

After Isaac fought and continued letting the wells be dug...

Genesis 26:22 KJV  And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

He kept letting the well flow.
  • IT MADE ROOM FOR HIM.
  • Amidst all the enemies, Good WILL DRIVE THEM BACK AND MAKE ROOM.
  • DO NOT ALLOW THEIR THREATS to intimidate you!
  • KEEP DIGGING YOUR WELLS!

Genesis 26:24 KJV  And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.

FEAR NOT!
  • God came through for him when HE PERSISTED!

Back in Abraham's day there was another well dug.

Genesis 21:22-26 KJV  And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:  (23)  Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.  (24)  And Abraham said, I will swear.  (25)  And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.  (26)  And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.

Abraham rebuked the enemy!
  • The enemy was fearful of him!
  • Wanted a treaty with him.
  • And a well was there which they called BEERSHEBA.. AN OATH.

Genesis 26:26-33 KJV  Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.  (27)  And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?  (28)  And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;  (29)  That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.  (30)  And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.  (31)  And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.  (32)  And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.  (33)  And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.

Isaac experienced the same thing!
  • If you are a child of Abraham, you need the blessings of Abraham.
  • You need the VICTORY OVER ENEMIES that Abraham had!
  • But you will only get if you keep DIGGING OUT THOSE WELLS!

Exodus 12:7 KJV  And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

DOORPOSTS.
  • YOUR MOUTH.
  • BLOOD ON YOUR LIPS.
  • LIKE coals from the altar on Isaiah's lips.
  • The altar and the blood go together.
  • They speak of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
  • MAKE THAT YOUR TESTIMONY!
  • SPEAK IT OUT!

LET THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD SAY SO.

Psalms 107:2 KJV  Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

Psalms 107:6-8 KJV  Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.  (7)  And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.  (8)  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

If you sit back and let the world go by, and not SAY SO..., your vineyard will cease bringing forth grapes, and instead bear wild grapes.
  • The stone wall of a hedge and barrier of protection will be gone.

Proverbs 24:30-34 KJV  I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;  (31)  And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.  (32)  Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.  (33)  Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:  (34)  So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
