2Ti
2:1-22 KJV Thou
therefore, my son, be strong in the
grace that is in Christ Jesus. (2) And the things that thou
hast heard of me
among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall
be able
to teach others also. (3) Thou therefore endure
hardness, as a good
soldier of Jesus Christ. (4) No man that warreth
entangleth himself with
the affairs of this life; that he may please him
who hath chosen him to
be a soldier. (5) And if a man also strive
for masteries, yet
is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
(6) The
husbandman that laboureth
must be first partaker of the fruits.
(7) Consider
what I say; and the
Lord give thee understanding in all things.
(8) Remember
that Jesus Christ of
the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: (9)
Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even
unto bonds; but
the word of God is not bound. (10) Therefore I endure all
things for the elect's
sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus
with
eternal glory. (11) It is a
faithful saying: For if we be
dead with him, we shall also live with him: (12)
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:
if we deny him,
he also will deny us: (13) If we believe not, yet
he abideth
faithful: he cannot deny himself.
(14) Of
these things put them
in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that
they strive not about
words to no profit, but to the subverting of the
hearers. (15)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to
be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
(16) But
shun profane and
vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (17)
And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is
Hymenaeus and
Philetus; (18) Who concerning the truth
have erred, saying
that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. (19)
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure,
having this seal, The
Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name
of
Christ depart from iniquity. (20) But in a great house there
are not only
vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some
to
honour, and some to dishonour. (21) If a man therefore purge
himself from these,
he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's
use, and
prepared unto every good work. (22) Flee also youthful lusts:
but follow
righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord
out of a
pure heart.
Mat
16:15-18 KJV He
saith unto them, But whom say ye that I
am? (16)
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the
Christ, the Son of the
living God. (17) And Jesus answered and
said unto him, Blessed
art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it
unto
thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
(18) And
I say also unto thee,
That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the
gates
of hell shall not prevail against it.
Paul
spoke about enduring HARDNESS as a man of God.
- He
spoke of hwo the husbandman must be the first to eat of his
fruits he grows and gives to others, meaning this entire ministry of
Christians
denying sin and serving God must be something the preacher himself
experiences
BEFORE HE STARTS TO PREACH ANYTHING.
Verse
5 says a man who strives for masteries must strive lawfully.
- Don't
cheat.
- Don't
try to preach without properly FIRST denying your flesh and
getting freed from sin, yourself.
- Many
want to preach victory over sin and living a holy life for God,
when they have never overcome sin themselves, yet.
Paul
told Tim to recall how Paul was suffering greatly for the
gospel.
- But
Paul did so because he knew some truths:
(11)
It is a faithful saying: For if
we be dead with him, we
shall also live with him:
(12) If
we suffer, we shall also
reign with him: if we deny him,
he also will deny us: (13)
If we believe not, yet he
abideth faithful: he cannot deny
himself.
If
you die with Jesus, as Paul was
doing, even in his daily minsterial lifestyle, YOU WILL LIVE WITH HIM
-- or
RESURRECT over it all!
He
spoke about false teachers in his
day who claimed the resurrection was past.
- Some
people were overthrown by them.
- Some
backslid away from truth.
- BUT
ALTHOUGH SOME HAVE THEIR FOOTING
TAKEN OUT FROM BENEATH THEM, NEVERTHELESS THEER IS A FOUNDATION that if
you get
it under your feet and keep it there, IT STANDETH SURE.
That
foundation is the ROCK Jesus said He'd build his church upon.
- As
much as false teachers and their false doctrines WILL NOT
subvert the faith of those on the rock, Jesus said the gates of hell
shall not
prevail against the church.
There is a ROCK foundation that STANDS SURE, and DOES NOT MOVE
UNSTEADILY.
- And
listen to the seal of this foundation.
2
Ti 2: (19) Nevertheless
the foundation of God standeth
sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let
every one
that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Recall
that we compared the ROCK the church is built upon with the
ROCK upon which the wise man builds his house where storms cannot tear
it down.
- In
that parable, Jesus said this:
Mat
7:21-25 KJV Not
every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord,
shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of
my Father
which is in heaven. (22) Many will say to me in
that day, Lord, Lord,
have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out
devils? and
in thy name done many wonderful works?
(23) And
then will I profess unto
them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (24)
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine,
and doeth them, I
will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: (25)
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the
winds blew, and
beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Look
at verse 22 and 23.
- THEY
KNEW THE LORD.
- BUT
HE DID NOT KNOW THEM.
We
explained a couple of weeks ago that such people are PEOPLE
WHO HEARD THE FATHER SPEAK TO THEM.
Matt
16:
(16) And
Simon Peter answered and
said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
(17)
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art
thou, Simon Barjona:
for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee,
but my Father which
is in heaven.
The
only ones who know who the Son is
are people whom the FATHER REVEALED IT TO.
- So
THEY COME TO KNOW JESUS.
- But
there is aN ADDITIONAL REVELATION
they must receive.
- FROM
THE SON, now.
- They
knew the Son since Father
revealed Him.
- BUT
THE SON CANNOT KNOW THEM UNTIL
THE SON REVEALS SOMETHING TO THEM AS WELL.
- One
revelation from the Father and a
FURTHER REVELATION from the Son.
- The
SECOND REVELATION puts us on a rock and the gates of hell
cannot prevail against us.
- That
is why Jesus spoke of a man building on a rock WHO HEARS THE
SON'S WORDS AND DOES THEM.
- THE
FATHER HAD WORDS CONCERNING THE IDENTITY OF THE SON, BUT THE
SON HAS WORDS that build you on a ROCK.
- AND
THERE ARE MANY WHO HEARD THE WORDS OF THE FATHER, AND KNOW
JESUS IS LORD.
- BUT
WHEN THEY HEAR THE WORDS OF THE SON, THEY REFUSE TO DO THEM.
Mat
16:21 KJV From that
time forth began Jesus to shew unto
his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many
things of
the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised
again
the third day.
These
words of THE SON involved DEATH.
- THE
CROSS.
- And
that was fuly represented by His words to PETER about what HE
ALSO has to say, in addition.
- ALSO
MEANS "IN ADDITION".
- If
Jesus said GATES OF HELL could not prevail against the church
on the rock, that means HELL is somehow involved with the church.
- HELL
is from the greek word for GRAVE.
- DEATH
and the GRAVE are associated.
- You
cannot get in the grave unless you DIED.
- And
the reaosn we read of the GATES OF THE GRAVE here, is BECAUSE
TO BECOME PART OF THE CHURCH MEANS YOU HAVE TO DIE.
- The
grave has nothing to do with you until you die.
- So
the only way the grave could not prevail, is first for it to
have it's gates SHUT AND CLOSE ON SOMEONE WHO DIED.
Notice
Jesus called PETER "SIMON BAR JONAH."
Jon
2:6 KJV I went down
to the bottoms of the mountains;
the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet
hast thou brought up
my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
JONAH
described GATES OF THE GRAVE like BARS clsing him in to stay
in it's prison house.
Jesus
died and rose again, and said it was the sign of Jonah!
Jesus
is saying that THE CHURCH is going to be comprised of people
WHO DIED.
- That
is how the gates of the grave become associated with them.
- BUT
THEY ARE BUILT ON THE ROCK.
- JESUS
IS THE ROCK.
1Co
3:11 KJV For other
foundation can no man lay than that
is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
WHEN
YOU UNITE TO HIM, IF YOU DIE YOU WILL NOT STAY DEAD!
- He
died and rose again.
- YOU
WIL THEREFORE DIE AND RISE AGAIN.
BUT
THIS IS WHAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO HEAR.
- They
may have heard the Father, but they do not want to do what
the SON SAID.
Peter
was BLESSED!
Matt
16 (17) And Jesus
answered and said unto him, Blessed
art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it
unto
thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
BUT
THAT IS NOT ENOUGH.
Paul
spoke of enduring hardness.
- And
then spoke of a FAITHFUL SAYING
that Paul always stood upon.
- FAITHFUL
MEANS YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNT
ON IT.
- We
know Paul had a revelation of this
because he said it was faithful.
- If
everyone knew it was faithful like
Paul did, they woudl GLADLY DO JESUS' WORDS.
2
Tim 2 (10) Therefore
I endure all things for the elect's
sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus
with
eternal glory. (11) It is a
faithful saying: For if we be
dead with him, we shall also live with him: (12)
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:
if we deny him,
he also will deny us:
Notice
after he says "IF WE SUFFER WE SHALL REIGN WITH
HIM", that he says IF WE DENY HIM HE WILL DENY US?
- The
DENYING Is refusing to SUFFER WITH HIM.
- And
he will deny us.
- When
the people called Jesus Lord, they had a revelation from the
Father.
- But
we know they did not get one form the SOn because Jesus said
they heard his words but did not do them.
- AND
HE DENIED THEM.
- Watch
how he denied them:
Mat
7:23 KJV And then
will I profess unto them, I never
knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Not
denying Him is not rejecting who he is.
- IT
IS REJECTING HIS REVELATION AFTER YOU GET THE FATHER'S
REVELATION ABOUT WHO HE IS.
Notice
what is LINKED to the LORD KNOWING US:
Notice
also that HE CALLED THEM WORKWERS OF INIQUITY:
2
tim 2 (19) Nevertheless
the foundation of God standeth
sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let
every one
that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
If
you are on the ROCK, yuou have
HEARD HIS WORDS AND DONE THEM.
- ONLY
THEN DOES he KNOW YOU.
- That
is why we read that when God KNOWS the peopel who are HIs,
THAT another part fo the FOUNDATION reads LET EVERY ONE WHO NAMETHE THE
NAME OF
CHRIST DEPART FROM INQIUITY!
He
called them workers of iniquity!
- THey
said they NAMED HIM!
- They
called Him LORD!
- But
he said they'[;re workers of inqiuty.
- In
other words, YOU MAY DO GREAT THINGS IN HIS NAME, AND NAME HIM,
BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO NAME HIM AND WANT HIM TO KNOW YOU, THEN
ALTHOUGH YOU
MAY BE DOING MIRACLES IN HIS NAME YOU CANNOT ALSO DO INQIUITY!
THE
WORDS OF THE SON ARE THE WORDS OF THE CROSS.
- SACRIFICE!
- And
too many people like to praise His name and NAME HIM, even do
miracles.
- BUT
THE ONES WHOM HE KNOWS ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE SACRIFIFECED.
Jesus
started to speaqk of the CROSS after the FAther spoke to
Peter.
- Peter
immediately did what so many do today in their hearts,
withotu syaing it aloud.
Mat
16:21-24 KJV From
that time forth began Jesus to shew unto
his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many
things of
the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised
again
the third day. (22) Then Peter took him, and
began to rebuke him,
saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. (23)
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind
me, Satan: thou art
an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God,
but those
that be of men. (24) Then said Jesus unto his
disciples, If any man
will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and
follow me.
PETER
RESISTED THE THOUGHT OF DEATH.
- HE
MISSED THE REVELATION.
- HE
MISSED WHAT THE SON SAID.
- Jesus
said there will be a grave.
- He
said there will be gates of a grave that will clang shut over
you if you get into this church.
1Co
12:13 KJV For by
one Spirit are we all baptized into
one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we
be bond or
free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Rom
6:4 KJV Therefore
we are buried with him by baptism
into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the
glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
BAPTISM
IS THE WAY INTO THE CHURCH, AND BAPTISM IS BURIAL INTO
DEATH.
- That
means SACRIFICE OF YOUR OLD LIFE.
- Don't
get baptized if you have no intention of your old lifestyle
DYING!
- And
so SACRIFICE is involved.
- DEATH
is there.
- But
when you DO sacrfiice, and you DO die, and the gates of the
GRAVE, so to speak, clang shut on your old life, THEY WILL NOT PREVAIL
AGAINST
YOU!
- They
wil nto keep you there!
THAT
MEANS RESURRECTION.
- It
is a faithful saying, if we die with him we shall also live
with him.!
- The
foundation STANDETH SYURE.\
- IT
IS FAITHFUL.
- YOU
WILL NOT HAVE THE GATES OF HELL KEEP YOU DOWN IF YOU
SACRIFICE!
If
you hear this and get no revelation, then you denied Jesus.
- You
rejected his words.
- YOU
WILL NOT SACRIFICE even though you know who He is.
- He
will not know who YOU are until you HEAR HIS WORDS.
Peter
was a HINDRANCE to Jesus, when he so wanted to be an AID.
- Jesus
called him satan, and an offence.
-
A
HINDRANCE.
You
see, you are a HINDRANCE untiul you are able to UNITE TO HIM
IN DYING WITH HIM.
- Paul
suffered as a christian.
- BUT
HE HAD A REVELATION that allowed him to be able to do that.
- HE
KNEW THAT SACRIFICE MAY HURT, BUT SOMETHING GREATER THAN WHAT
IS SACRIFIECED WILL ALWAYS COME FORTH!
Thayt
is why some peopl enever TITHE.
- TITHES
are sacrifices!
-
THEY
DO NOT SACRIFICE.
- If
they really got a revelaiton that what you sacrifice is going
to come back multiplued times in return, they would do it!
SAME
GOES WITH LIFESTYLE.
- The
reaosn peopel cannot stay sober and cannot stay away from sex
outside marriage, is because they may have heard the Father's
revelation of who
Jesus is, but they never were able to depart from iniquity SO JESUS
KNOWS THEM
since they DID NOT GET A REVELATION THAT SACRIFICE -- STAYING AWAY FROM
SIN AND
ILLICIT SEX AND GAMNBLING, ETC., -- WILL CAUSE GOD TO GIVE YOU BACK
MANY
MULTIPLIED MORE BLESSINGS THAN WHAT YOU SACRIFICED.
It
is interesting he mentioned people who teach the resurrection
is past.
- In
other words, they teach tehre IS NO LIVING WITH JESUS for us
today.
- There
are no miracles.
- There
is no power and GREASTR LIFE after you sacrifice!
- Teaching
there is no resurrection is representtrative of teaching
YOU WILL NOT GET GREATER OF THE SAME THING IN A SACRIFICE IF YOU
SACRIFICE IT.
Jesus
DOES NOT KNOW anyone who refuses to depart from iniquity.
As
if in a play of words, the triuth is:
ONE
REVELATION: KNOW JESUS,
THE
NEXT: JESUS KNOWS YOU
WE
GET GREATER LIFE WHEN WE SACRIFICE LIFE:
DEATH
IS THE END OF THE OLD LIFE
- It
ends the old.
- Weightlifters
can lift to a certain point, but they are overcome
by the weight after that point.
- DEATH
overcomes our OLD LIVES.
- We
are afraid of death so we do nto sacrifice because it ENDS our
LIFE.
- But
Jesus promised the NEW LIFE CANNOTG BE HELD BY THE GRAVE.
- Death
is the FIRST THING the NEW LIFE OVERCOMES!
- Resurrection
can only occur if a NEW LIFE is given to one who
dies, that is GREATER THAN DEATH THAT KILLED IT.
Mat
3:14-17 KJV But
John forbad him, saying, I have need to
be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
(15) And
Jesus answering said unto
him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh
us to fulfil all
righteousness. Then he suffered him.
(16) And
Jesus, when he was
baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens
were
opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove,
and
lighting upon him: (17) And lo a voice from
heaven, saying, This is
my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Luk
9:30-35 KJV And,
behold, there talked with him two men,
which were Moses and Elias: (31) Who appeared in glory, and
spake of his decease
which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
(32) But
Peter and they that were
with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his
glory,
and the two men that stood with him.
(33) And
it came to pass, as they
departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to
be here:
and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and
one for
Elias: not knowing what he said.
(34) While
he thus spake, there
came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered
into the
cloud. (35) And there came a voice out
of the cloud,
saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
Everytime
Jesus did something that indicated his willingness to
DIE, the FATHER SAID HE WAS WELLPLEASING!
Paul
spoke of dying before he mentioned all of this.
