Judges 3:12-22
CEV Once more the Israelites started disobeying the LORD. So he
let them be defeated by King Eglon of Moab, (13) who had
joined forces with the Ammonites and the Amalekites to attack Israel.
Eglon and his army captured Jericho. (14) Then he ruled
Israel for eighteen years and forced the Israelites to pay heavy
taxes. (15) The Israelites begged the LORD for help, and
the LORD chose Ehud from the Benjamin tribe to rescue them. They put
Ehud in charge of taking the taxes to King Eglon, but before Ehud went,
he made a double-edged dagger. Ehud was left-handed, so he strapped the
dagger to his right thigh, where it would be hidden under his
robes. (16) (SEE 3:15) (17) Ehud and some other
Israelites took the taxes to Eglon, who was a very fat man. As soon as
they gave the taxes to Eglon, Ehud said it was time to go home.
(18) (SEE 3:17) (19) Ehud went with the other
Israelites as far as the statues at Gilgal. Then he turned back and
went upstairs to the cool room where Eglon had his throne. Ehud said,
"Your Majesty, I need to talk with you in private." Eglon replied,
"Don't say anything yet!" His officials left the room, and Eglon stood
up as Ehud came closer. "Yes," Ehud said, "I have a message for you
from God!" (20) (SEE 3:19) (21) Ehud pulled out
the dagger with his left hand and shoved it so far into Eglon's
stomach (22) that even the handle was buried in his fat.
Ehud left the dagger there. Then after closing and locking the doors to
the room, he climbed through a window onto the porch
EHUD was a BENJAMITE.
- Of the
tribe of Benjamin.
- BENJAMIN
means SON OF THE RIGHT HAND.
- And Ehud
was LEFTHANDED, and slew King Eglon, the enemy of Israel, and brought
deliverance to Israel.
Notice that Israel committed evil and God allowed a wicked tyrant to
rule over them named Eglon.
- He was
King of Moab.
- An enemy
of Israel.
- When we
transgress and depart from God, we enter phases of CARNALITY.
- Eglon was
said to be an enemy ruler, and was described as being a very fat man.
- Lots of
flesh.
- Overabundance
of flesh.
- Too much
flesh.
- And this
represents FLESHLINESS in our lives in a great abundance.
- The Bible
speaks badly of flesh.
Romans 8:1
KJV There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in
Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Romans 8:5-9 KJV For they that are after the flesh do mind the
things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of
the Spirit. (6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to
be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the
carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be. (8) So then they that are in
the flesh cannot please God. (9) But ye are not in the
flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Walking after the flesh is being carnally minded.
- The
fleshly mind is the mind that indulges only in things the flesh can
relate to, and is not able to enjoy the things our five senses cannot
sense.
- Our
spirits alone can sense God.
- Our flesh
only has five senses – taste, touch, sight, sound, smell.
- None of
these things relate to God.
- So when
the flesh has control in our lives, we focus upon the things that
taste, touch, sight, sound and smell can sense, and nothing else.
- This means
God is out of the picture.
2 Corinthians
5:7 KJV (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV While we look not at the things which are
seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are
seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Romans 8:24-25 KJV For we are saved by hope: but hope that is
seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
(25) But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience
wait for it.
Carnality occurs in a person’s life when they FOCUS upon things
that relate to the five sense TOO MUCH.
- If you do
not feed your spirit and strengthen your spirit with the things IT
RELATES TO, you will become very insensitive to spiritual things.
- This
happens when you feed and FOCUS only upon the things your flesh relates
to.
- Our flesh
has to be allowed to relate to things, but ONLY TO A MEASURE.
- When we
ONLY focus on things our flesh relates to, then our spirits are so weak
and ineffective that we are lost when it comes to spiritual things.
- And the
things of God are all spiritually discerned, and we will never be able
to get heavily involved in the things of God as a result of never
giving attention to spiritual things.
Hebrews 5:13-14 KJV For every one that useth milk is unskilful in
the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. (14) But
strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by
reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The way we exercise our SPIRITUAL senses, is by simply USING THEM.
- Focus on
spiritual things.
- Focus on
things such as believing God for miracles, and trusting God to help you
when you see no visible way of help.
- Trust in
God, anyway, when you read the Word that says He is greater in us than
the devil is in the world.
- Learn to
BELIEVE THIS.
- Focus on
such things.
- Take time
and read the Bible with the mindset that you will BELIEVE WHAT IT SAYS.
- If God
said you are buried with Christ into HIS DEATH so that you can have
victory over sin, then believe it.
- Go over it
and over it until it hits you and something sparks in your heart
that you can really know what it is like to KNOW YOU HAVE VICTORY IN
JESUS.
EGLON ruling over Israel represents the FLESHLY LIFESTYLE ruling over
your life.
- The
victory of having faith is not being experienced.
- You have
not given attention to spiritual things enough.
- That is
what CHURCH is for.
- To help
you focus.
- We
ministers focus on spiritual things and are used by God to increase
your faith and explain the Word to you so that you can start believing.
- You are
meant to focus on spiritual things at home, too.
- But if
all you do is watch TV or read the papers or read a love story or
mystery novel, and never give any time for SPIRITUAL THINGS that the
Bible talks about, then you are not feeding your spirit, and only your
flesh is being fed, and you will see defeat increase more and more in
your life until trouble starts, and you experience defeats that you do
not enjoy at all.
- THIS IS
WHERE EHUD comes into the picture.
Israel committed sin and things got so carnal that so many bad things
started happening that they cried out to God
When we get sick and tired of being sick and tired, and call out to
GOD, EHUD IS GOING TO COME.
- Ehud means
UNITED.
- He was a
Benjamite.
- Of the
tribe of Benjamin.
- Everytime
I think of a BENJAMITE who becomes a significant person in a story, I
think of PAUL THE APOSTLE who said he was of the tribe of Bejamin.
Philippians 3:5 KJV Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of
Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching
the law, a Pharisee;
And UNITED is a very significant issue with Paul the apostle's ministry.
- He TAUGHT
OF OUR UNION TO CHRIST'S DEATH AND RESURRECTION!
- He taught
that people who get saved have UNITED to Jesus' death, burial and
resurrection.
- They,
therefore, have the same victory over sin that Jesus had when He
resurrected from the grave and conquered sin.
And so the COMING OF EHUD represents the COMING OF TRUTH that Paul the
apostle preached in order to bring us VICTORY.
- Paul's'
message SLAYS THE OLD MAN who is VERY FLESHLY.
Ehud said: Judges 3:19 ...Ehud said, "I have a message for you from
God!"
- A MESSAGE
FROM GOD is GOD'S WORD.
Paul ministered the WORD OF GOD TO US SAYING...
Romans 6:5-6 KJV For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection: (6) Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that
henceforth we should not serve sin.
The OLD MAN represents the FLESHLY people we all were in sin.
- Now,
salvation deals with this old man, but we can somewhat resurrect the
old guy when we slip back into The and carnality.
- And we
have to deal with the old man the same way he was dealt with when we
first got saved.
- TRUTH OF
THE CROSS.
When we hear the truth of how we are UNITED to Christ in His death and
resurrection, WE EXERCISE OUR FAITH MACHINES, called our spirits.
- We focus
on believing things our fleshly senses cannot relate to, and actually
exercise our spirits.
- We are
spirit, soul and body.
- And we
have to exercise the part of us called our spirits that CAN BELIEVE in
things we cannot see.
- And when
we focus on how OUR DEATHS WITH CHRIST caused us to RESURRECT WITH
CHRIST to see GOD ABLE TO WORK ON OUR BEHALFS AND BACK UP ANYTHING WE
COMMAND IN JESUS' NAME, we experience something.
The Word of God that teaches these things SPARKS A FAITH in our spirits.
- It deals
with something apart from the flesh that does not need to see, smell,
hear, taste or touch something in order to believe it.
- We begin
to SENSE something, but not with our flesh, since the fives senses
cannot sense this.
- OUR
SPIRITS sense it, and suddenly it hits us and we have FAITH!
- We believe
this so strongly, that the fleshly urge to demand to see, hear, taste,
touch or smell it before we believe it is real IS GONE!
- WE BELIEVE
WHAT THE WORD SAYS EVEN THOUGH it is not sensed by our flesh.
- We DOUBTED
everything before if we could not see, hear, taste, touch or smell it.
- But we
have exercised our spirits to such a level that WED DOUBT NOTHING.
- And when
that strikes our spirits, IT IS LIKE EHUD'S DAGGER SAYS EGLON, THE VERY
VERY FLESHLY MAN.
Ehud's dagger is described as follows:
Judges 3(15) The Israelites begged the LORD for help, and the
LORD chose Ehud from the Benjamin tribe to rescue them. They put Ehud
in charge of taking the taxes to King Eglon, but before Ehud went, he
made a double-edged dagger. Ehud was left-handed, so he strapped the
dagger to his right thigh, where it would be hidden under his
robes.
TWO EDGED BLADE.
Hebrews 4:12 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and
sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder
of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of
the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Paul's truth of how we are UNITED to Christ is a TWOEDGED SWORD called
the WORD OF GOD.
- Paul was
used so powerfully with this truth.
- And when
we "GET IT", it slays the old man.
- In other
words, that fleshly part of us that demands we see, taste, hear, touch
and smell something before we can believe it, that cannot believe in
anything spiritual because of it, and takes over our lives and stifles
out any spirituality in our lives so that GOD CANNOT BLESS US, IS
SLAIN!!!!
We need to realize that the truths of the cross of JESUS, and this
preaching of JESUS will cause us to realize a great faith in our hearts
that will slay the CARNAL AND FLESHLY OLD MAN that rules so many
believers' lives.
- Hear this
truth again and again until it finally grips you and gives you faith
that DOES NOT DOUBT and is so convinced that God is with us to empower
us that WE DOUBT NOTHING when we command sin to cease its activity in
us and claim victory in our lives in JESUS' NAME!
What is so wonderful about this picture is that BENJAMIN means SON OF
THE RIGHT HAND.
- And the
RIGHT HAND is significantly referring to the KINGDOM OF JESUS CHRIST.
Psalms 110:1 KJV A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord,
Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Acts 7:55-56 KJV But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up
stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on
the right hand of God, (56) And said, Behold, I see the
heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
Acts 2:33 KJV Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted,
and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he
hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
SON OF THE RIGHT HAND spiritually means we BELONG TO THE KING OF KINGS
AT THE RIGHT HAND, JESUS CHRIST!
- But yet
EHUD was LEFTHANDED.
- And
LEFTHANDED in Hebrew means:
IT-TARE (Hebrew)
- LEFTHANDED:
shut up, that is, impeded (as to the use of the right hand): - +
left-handed.
"USE OF THE RIGHT HAND IMPEDED."
- Why would
he be called SON OF THE RIGHT HAND if the use of his right hand was
impeded so as to force him to use HIS LEFT HAND INSTEAD?
- God is
stressing to us that THE RIGHT HAND of power is not referring to OUR
HUMAN RIGHT HANDS that we can conquer with, BUT THE POWER OF THE RIGHT
HAND OF GOD!
- To remove
any doubt as to whose right hand brings us the victory, GOD USED A SON
OF THE RIGHT HAND (Benjamite) WHO COULD ONLY USE HIS HUMAN LEFT
HAND!
- This shows
us that the power is not of us, not by our might, nor by our power, BUT
BY GOD'S SPIRIT!
Psalms 44:3 KJV For they got not the land in possession by their
own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and
thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a
favour unto them.
2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV But we have this treasure in earthen
vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
THAT is what someone who has faith in the truth that we are UNITED to
Christ believes in order to win victories!
By stressing the LEFT HAND of a man slew the enemy, by one who is SON
OF THE RIGHT HAND, God is showing us HIS RIGHT HAND is what truly
brings victory.
