1 Chron. 17 (13) I will
be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy
away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
(14) But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for
ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.
Matthew 1:1 KJV The
book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of
Abraham.
Perhaps it gives a whole new meaning to the words of someone calling
out to Jesus, knowing the SURE MERCIES OF DAVID would be upon him.
Matthew 9:27 KJV And when
Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying,
Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
Matthew 12:22-23 KJV
Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb:
and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and
saw. (23) And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not
this the son of David?
Jesus had this blessing upon Him as SON OF DAVID and SON OF GOD.
- People actually
received blessings and mercy from Him because of it!
Matthew 15:22 KJV And,
behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto
him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter
is grievously vexed with a devil.
Matthew 20:30 KJV
And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard
that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou
Son of David.
Matthew 20:31 KJV
And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace:
but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of
David.
By the amount of times MERCY is associated with calling Jesus SON OF
DAVID, there seems to be something the Spirit is telling us about the
SURE MERCIES OF DAVID.
But He is son of David and yet David's LORD!
Matthew 22:42-46 KJV
Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him,
The Son of David. (43) He saith unto them, How then doth
David in spirit call him Lord, saying, (44) The LORD said
unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy
footstool? (45) If David then call him Lord, how is he his
son? (46) And no man was able to answer him a word, neither
durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
But the greatest show of the sure mercies of David upon Jesus is seen
in the time JESUS CHRIST WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD.
- In order for Him to
sit on the throne of David, when Jesus was killed HE HAD TO BE
RESURRECTED, or else the prophecy could not come to pass.
That is why Paul also quoted the prophecy in Psalms:
Psalms 16:8-11 KJV I have
set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall
not be moved. (9) Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory
rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. (10) For thou
wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One
to see corruption. (11) Thou wilt shew me the path of life:
in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are
pleasures for evermore.
Pleasures forevermore at the right hand because Christ was raised to
sit there in an immortal body.
- Even HIS FLESH would
rest in hope, because he would not be left in the grave to suffer
corruption and decay.
- This was so He would
be settled in the Kingdom forever and the kingdom would never be rent
away.
MERCY is shown for someone to be raised from the dead so as not to
decay.
- And it is God's
mercy at work in resurrected Christ.
- BUT THIS IS SURE
MERCY!
The path of life corresponds to the way of the tree of life in Genesis
from which Adam was barred.
- The KINGDOM realm of
the Garden.
- MERCY to come back
to the GARDEN KINGDOM.
RIGHT HAND OF GOD is not
something like three thrones in heaven and on the middle is the Father
and the Son is on the right hand beside Him.
RIGHT HAND is an idiom expressing POWER.
It denotes KINGDOM POSITION of Jesus.
Exodus 15:5-6 KJV The
depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.
(6) Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy
right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
Exodus 15:12 KJV
Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.
Psalms 18:35 KJV
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand
hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
For example, RIGHT HAND MAN still means next in command.
And God is omnipresent, every present and no where absent.
- You could not see
past your eyelids if you could see God.
John 1:18 KJV No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten
Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
So John did not actually see a reality of what was in Heaven in the
vision.
- He SAW God
symbolized as something you could SEE.
- And He saw the Lamb
go to Him as a High priest.
- So the actual
picture of a right hand throne is not one throne to the right side of
another one, BUT THE SINGLE THRONE OF POWER.
That is why Jesus said HE SAT DOWN WITH HIS FATHER ON THE FATHER'S
THRONE.
Revelation 3:21 KJV To
him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I
also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Solomon received the sure mercies when he started ruling.
- He asked God about
fulfilling them at the start of his reign.
- And Jesus Christ
STARTED RULING when He resurrected and sat on the right hand throne.
- RESURRECTION WAS
WHEN THE REAL MANIFESTATION of the sure mercies, therefore, occurred
with Jesus.
- In fact, Paul
highlighted the sure mercies being fulfilled when JESUS RESURRECTED
FROM THE DEAD.
Romans 6:9-10 KJV Knowing
that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no
more dominion over him. (10) For in that he died, he died
unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
As the glory poured forth when Solomon ruled and the Temple was
dedicated and the ark set in its place, the SPIRIT OF GOD POURED OUT on
the day of Pentecost.
2 Chronicles 6:41-7:3 KJV
(41) Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place,
thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be
clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
(42) O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed:
remember the mercies of David thy servant. (7:1) Now when
Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and
consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the
LORD filled the house. (2) And the priests could not enter
into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled
the LORD'S house. (3) And when all the children of Israel
saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house,
they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement,
and worshiped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his
mercy endureth for ever.
Acts 2:1-4 KJV And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they
were all with one accord in one place. (2) And suddenly there came a
sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting. (3)And there appeared unto them cloven
tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.(4)And they were
all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 1:15 KJV And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the
disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an
hundred and twenty,)
This was just as Solomon’s temple was dedicated and the ark
entered – Like Jesus in the Holiest:
2 Chronicles 5:7-14 KJV And the priests brought in the ark of the
covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into
the most holy place, even under the wings of the
cherubims: (8) For the cherubims
spread forth their wings over the place of the
ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. (9) And they drew out
the staves of the ark, that the ends of the staves
were seen from the ark before the oracle; but they were not seen
without. And there it is unto this day. (10) There was nothing in the ark save the
two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of
Israel, when they came out of Egypt. (11) And it came to pass,
when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: (12) Also the Levites which werethe
singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons
and their brethren, beingarrayed
in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the
east end of the altar, and with them an
hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) (13) It came even to
pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as
one, to make one sound to
be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and
cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a
cloud, even the house of the LORD; (14) So that the priests
could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of
the LORD had filled the house of God.
This mercy of resurrection is ultimate, because His resurrection was
not like Lazarus' or Jarius' daughter, for those people died again
physically.
Romans 6:9-10 KJV Knowing that Christ
being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion
over him.(10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once:
but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Jesus would never die again!
- He was raised IMMORTAL!
- That is ultimate sure mercies. DEATH CANNOT TOUCH HIM AGAIN! He
was not even susceptible to death when He resurrected.
- He was immortal.
- Mercy comes in many forms, but sure mercies are unending mercies
that keep on keeping on.
- And this gives us the idea of why Isaiah 55 mentioned the
everlasting covenant as well.
- It is everlasting because it is UNENDING and resurrection from
death means one lives forevermore.
- There is something powerful we need to understand about the
KINGDOM today.
