Genesis 1:1-4 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (2) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (3) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (4) And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. This message is about the greatest experience you will ever know.
And resurrection occurred with the land rising up from beneath the waters.
Here we have water and Spirit, and God's spoken Word, in God's work of creating a kingdom for Adam. Its the foreshadow of the experience of new birth and new creation by experiencing the baptism of the Holy Ghost! This picture of God’s glory resting over something is repeated throughout the bible.
The Chinese believe that the first man came out of chaos as though coming out of an egg.
The same picture of a bird fluttering over her young is noted in the Exodus! Deuteronomy 32:9-12 For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. (10) He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. (11) As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: (12) So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him. The Hebrew term for "waste", in verse 10, is actually "without form" in Genesis 1:2!
It was the same glory that brooded over the earth, as though birthing life in this world. God’s glory is seen many times and occurs in many places throughout the biblical history.
Now, notice that God’s glory acted like a hen brooding over its nest, and came in anger against Adam with NOISE. Ezekiel 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. We read about cherubims or loving creatures associated with this “glory”. And then we read... Ezekiel 1:13-14 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. (14) And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. Ezekiel 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings. The synonymous rendering of VOICE and NOISE lend credence to our statement concerning the voice that terrified Adam in the Garden. And the Hebrew terms for COOL OF THE DAY in Genesis 3:8 also can be rendered SPIRIT of CLOUD OF THE DAY. We read in Ezekiel 1:4 that God’s glory came with a cloud as well. Fire, cloud, lightning, and noise of great waters thundering like an army of people. Ezekiel 1:28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. This gentle brooding presence of God that gently fluttered over the earth, giving thought to wings of cherubims surrounding his throne, came charging against Adam. Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. The word DROVE OUT actually means DIVORCED. gaw-rash' A primitive root; to drive out from a possession; especially to expatriate or divorce: - cast up (out), divorced (woman), drive away (forth, out), expel, X surely put away, trouble, thrust out. Now, this is significant, because mankind is intended to contain the Spirit of God in our lives.
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. As a woman receives seed from the man and is impregnated to bear children, we are “married” to Christ and bring forth fruit unto God.
So the picture of God’s life is seen as impregnating mankind’s heart. When the devil succeeded in having mankind take another fruit instead, it is no wonder we read that God’s Spirit DROVE OUT, or DIVORCED man.
1 Samuel 4:4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. The Jews wrote "he inhabited the cherubim and that with a flaming sword” That flaming sword is the fire in the glory that Ezekiel saw. Now, all of this is very important for us to understand. We noted that the VOICE or NOISE from the wings of the Cherubims were like the voice of speech. Ezekiel 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings. The voice of the Almighty. Revelation 1:15-16 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. (16) And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. Here we have the same VOICE and the SWORD as well. This is Jesus Christ! In fact, Ezekiel describes a throne over the fire and lightning with one seated on it who looks like Jesus as described in Revelation!
John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Jesus is the GLORY! As we look back at the thought of Christ being married to the Church as a Husband to a Wife, we realize some powerful truths.
When a person is saved, belief and baptism is involved (Mark 16:16).
But the water alone is not the issue.
All of this is in Genesis 1.
Paul came to Ephesus in Acts 19 and asked the believers there if they received the Spirit since they believed.
The second question regarded WATER. Acts 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Paul also taught about the Exodus foreshadow of two elements of our new birth of water and Spirit. 1 Corinthians 10:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; (2) And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; The cloud is the foreshadow of SPIRIT baptism, and Israel were UNDER the cloud, as the Spirit brooded over them! And the baptism in the sea was the Red Sea crossing which is analogous to water baptism. SPIRIT AND WATER! It's everywhere! Paul was thinking of the same idea when he wrote: 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Same pattern as Genesis 1:2-3. And the Bible actually tells us that fire, lightning, and the noise or voice of God’s glory was involved in this new creation work of God in saving souls and making His church! Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. (3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Sound of rushing mighty wind. RUSHING in the Greek language here means DRIVEN or DRIVING. fer'-o A primary verb (for which other and apparently not cognate ones are used in certain tenses only; to “bear” or carry (in a very wide application, literally and figuratively: - be, bear, bring (forth), carry, come, + let her drive, be driven, endure, go on, lay, lead, move, reach, rushing, uphold. Recall that Adam was DRIVEN from the Garden.
2 Chronicles 5:12-14 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) (13) It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; (14) So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God. 120 people were also in the upper room in Acts 2 (Acts 1:15). It’s a reversal of the tragedy in the Garden of Eden. Act 2:3-4 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The tongues of fire is literally tongues of LIGHTNING in greek.
And a MIGHTY RUSHING WIND. Ezekiel 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. And the Spirit came UPON THEM.
Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. ABBA is actually like a baby speaking "DADDA" in Hebrew, derived from the Syriac and Chaldee languages.
We are born of the Spirit.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. We speak in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
Act 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. People are gathered together!
But here we read: Act 2:6-11 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. (7) And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? (8) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? (9) Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, (10) Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, (11) Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. God used languages to GATHER from ALL COUNTRIES! Jesus is being ministered to our lives! 2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. Ministering LIFE to our lives! John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. LET THERE BE LIGHT! The Acts 2:4 Holy Ghost new birth experience is the new creation and new Genesis as paralleled in God's Spirit moving upon the dark old world, putting light into it! |
