Genesis 1:26 And God said,
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing
that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made,
and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the
sixth day.
Mark 15:37-38 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and
gave up the ghost. (38) And the veil of the temple was rent
in twain from the top to the bottom.
Mark 15:42-43 And now when the even was come, because
it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
(43) Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also
waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate,
and craved the body of Jesus.
(Preparation is “day before the sabbath” –
Friday )
Matthew 28:1-2 In the end of the sabbath, as it began
to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the
other Mary to see the sepulchre. (2) And, behold, there was
a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven,
and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
Mark 16:1-4 And when the sabbath was past, Mary
Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet
spices, that they might come and anoint him. (2) And very
early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the
sepulchre at the rising of the sun. (3) And they said among
themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the
sepulchre? (4) And when they looked, they saw that the
stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
Adam was made on the sixth day of Genesis 1’s week.
- We all came from and derived from Adam.
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ
shall all be made alive.
Because Adam sinned, all of us were doomed to be born and die.
- So God made a way for us to depart from Adam’s
race and become a new creation.
- Christ was that way.
- In Christ shall all be made alive.
When Paul wrote that, He was talking about resurrection of our bodies
at the coming of the Lord.
Jesus not only died on the cross to make a way for our bodies to rise
from the grave one day, but for us to have eternal life before we
physically die.
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on
the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life,
and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Jesus Christ died on the sixth day of the week, the preparation day
which was the eve of Sabbath.
- The very day when God created Adam.
- And He resurrected the first day of the following week,
Sunday.
- Genesis counts a day beginning from evening and then
after that the morning.
- So sundown to sundown is a day, starting with the
darkness and ending with light.
- Hebrew Sabbath begins Friday at sundown on our clocks.
- Sometimes, though, even the Bible counted sunrise to
sunrise instead, as in Matthew 28:1 when it said the Sabbath was ending
at dawn towards the first day of the week.
- Or sunset to sunset as Mark 16:1.
Jesus died and we were baptized into that death on that sixth day of
the week when Adam was created.
- We were buried with Him in His tomb.
- He laid in that tomb for the duration of the Seventh
Day Sabbath.
- And early in the morning of the First day of the
following week, Jesus resurrected.
- We resurrected with Him.
- So you could say that Jesus removed us from
Adam’s day of creation on the sixth day and transported us to the
first day of the following week where we came forth as a NEW CREATION.
There is a very powerful and spiritual truth in all of this.
Not only do we see a thought about leaving Adam’s race by dying
with Jesus on the very day of the week when Adam was created, to cancel
us out of Adam, but the beginning of our NEW creation existence is THE
FIRST DAY AFTER THE SABBATH REST, instead of the last day before the
Sabbath rest.
Sabbath is REST.
- You worked six days and then rested the seventh.
- Rest came at the end of work.
- It is as though we earned our rest.
- We have to rest AFTER work since WOR tired us out.
But to be removed from the sixth day to the following first day of the
next week shows that we begin our activity AFTER RESTING, instead of
before.
We exist in a certain kind of form during the Sabbath resting in the
tomb with Jesus after His death, and THEN COME FORTH IN NEW
RESURRECTION LIFE AFTER that rest.
- WE REST AND THE WORK FOR GOD instead of WORKING AND
THEN RESTING.
- Working followed by a rest is earning that rest.
- But to begin AFTER we rest is a completely different
picture.
- It speaks of us doing no work to achieve a rest but God
doing the work through the cross to bring us into a rest and we live
and work after by the power of the SPIRIT that gave us this rest!
It’s the opposite of getting to a rest by our works.
- We live BECAUSE we already got rest through Jesus and
the cross.
- Not living TO REST.
Consider this now:
Exodus 16:4-5 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain
bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a
certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk
in my law, or no. And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they
shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much
as they gather daily.
Exodus 16:14-27 And when the dew that lay was gone up,
behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing,
as small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of
Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not
what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD
hath given you to eat. This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded,
Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every
man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man
for them which are in his tents. And the children of Israel did so, and
gathered, some more, some less. And when they did mete it with an omer,
he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had
no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. And Moses
said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. Notwithstanding they
hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the
morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating:
and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. And it came to pass,
that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers
for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told
Moses. And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which
ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which
remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. And they
laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink,
neither was there any worm therein. And Moses said, Eat that to day;
for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in
the field. Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which
is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. And it came to pass, that
there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and
they found none.
Manna fell for SIX DAYS, and then on that sixth day TWICE AS MUCH FELL
for each person.
- Not only was that different, but the manna that fell on
this day did not rot or decay and breed worms like it did if left
overnight on all the other days.
- That is spiritually significant when we consider Jesus
died on the sixth day.
One omer of manna was a single portion for everyone.
- Two omers was a double portion.
- They received a DOUBLE PORTION on the sixth day.
- Because they were not supposed to work on the seventh.
- This stopped them from going out to work and gather
manna on the Sabbath.
The spiritual picture is that THE DEATH OF THE CROSS is a DOUBLE
PORTION.
Even Jesus called Himself the MANNA from Heaven.
John 6:30-33 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou
then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
(31) Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written,
He gave them bread from heaven to eat. (32) Then Jesus said
unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that
bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from
heaven. (33) For the bread of God is he which cometh down
from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
John 6:48-51 I am that bread of life. (49) Your
fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. (50)
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat
thereof, and not die. (51) I am the living bread which came
down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever:
and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the
life of the world.
John 6:56-58 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood,
dwelleth in me, and I in him. (57) As the living Father
hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he
shall live by me. (58) This is that bread which came down
from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that
eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
We LIVE OF Jesus as He lived of the Father.
- Living from HIS LIFE is what it means when we pray for
giving us this day our daily bread.
- Daily because manna fell every day.
- A double portion revelation is knowing Jesus did not
die alone on that cross, but THAT YOU DIED WITH HIM.
- Since HIS DEATH is YOUR DEATH, His burial is yours then
His resurrection is yours.
Colossians 2:11-12 In whom also ye are circumcised with the
circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of
the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: (12) Buried with
him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of
the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
You are risen with him and seated with Him on his throne.
When you really get that, then YOU DO NOT TRY TO EARN A REST OR POWER
FROM GOD, BUT know you have it by sheer virtue of your UNION TO HIM.
- That’s what communion supper is all about!
- You are IN UNION with HIS death, burial and
resurrection AS YOUR OWN.
- Rest is a starting point to you in that sense.
- You live by faith that you already have power, so you
do not work for it, but work because of it.
- Look at this rest as seating with Him on HIS THRONE.
Getting it in your head and heart that you BEGIN FROM THE STANDPOINT OF
REST instead of WORKING TOWARDS it changes everything!
- We do not work to achieve what we ultimately want
spiritually, but know we already have what we ultimately want and WORK
FOR GOD BECAUSE OF IT.
Kingdom power comes from the revelation of this.
When you have that revelation and apply it to doing things IN HIS NAME,
then when you do things in His name and will have unbelievable power!
- You know more about what it means to be in His name
than anyone else who lacks this revelation can know.
- You know you are full of dominion and power BECAUSE YOU
ARE IN UNION WITH HIM since the cross.
- The cross did that and nothing else.
- Not your efforts or your works.
- God’s work in you on the cross when HE UNITED YOU
TO JESUS.
- We know we have power due to OUR UNION.
- By the cross!
So, transporting us from the sixth day when Adam was created, to the
first day of a new week speaks volumes, with the Sabbath rest between
it all!
