Psalms 2:1-12 KJV  Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  (2)  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,  (3)  Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.  (4)  He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.  (5)  Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.  (6)  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.  (7)  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.  (8)  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.  (9)  Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.  (10)  Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.  (11)  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  (12)  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Psalm 2 notes that Jesus is God Almighty and sits on the holy hill of Zion.

Psalms 110:1-2 KJV  A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.  (2)  The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

The New Testament quotes this Psalm more than any other verse from the Old Testament.

The events that took place which inspired the second Psalm seem to have been in the days when David originally took Jerusalem, which was formerly called Jebusi.

David was anointed.

2 Samuel 5:3 KJV  So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

He was anointed before this in 2 Samuel 2:4.

And he came to conquer a major city in Canaan.

2 Samuel 5:6-9 KJV  And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.  (7)  Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.  (8)  And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.  (9)  So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

David was laughed at and mocked when he set forth to conquer the Canaanite city named Jebusi.

And after the city was captured by David, David grew great:

2 Samuel 5:10 KJV  And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

2 Samuel 5:12 KJV  And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.

The Philistines heard about it.

2 Samuel 5:17-20 KJV  But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.  (18)  The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.  (19)  And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.  (20)  And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.

And the second Psalm was a song about this victory, when David conquered Zion and the Philistines thought they could easily remove David.

Psalms 2:1-9 KJV  Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  (2)  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,  (3)  Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.  (4)  He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.  (5)  Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.  (6)  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

David was established as King over Israel, before HE EVEN SOUGHT THE LORD ABOUT THE NEW ATTACK.

(7)  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Thiswas written by David about himself, buut was a prophetic statement referring to the great RESURRECTION OF JESUS reference from Acts 13:33.

David wrote this about the situation with JERUSALEM when the Philistines came up to dethrone him.

 (8)  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.  (9)  Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

And the early church applied this whole story and this second Psalm to JESUS and the CHURCH, knowing the hitsory of David was being spiritually repeated in their day.

The early church was much more KINGDOM-minded than Christians are today.

Peter preached about Jesus at the right hand on the day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:29-36 KJV  Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.  (30)  Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;  (31)  He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.  (32)  This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.  (33)  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.  (34)  For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,  (35)  Until I make thy foes thy footstool.  (36)  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Peter said the Holy Ghost was poured out solely because JESUS IS AT THE RIGHT HAND, having Psalm 110 in mind..

1 Corinthians 15:25 KJV  (25)  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

They took David’s Psalm 2 and Psalm 110 and applied it to Jesus Christ.

My heart bursts in revelation everytime I think of this KINGDOM awareness the apostles had.

Acts 1:1-3 KJV  The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,  (2)  Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:  (3)  To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

The list of proofs that HE WAS ALIVE – in other words, he had conquered death itself – included many infallible proofs, and being seen of them 40 days preaching KINGDOM.

So, the day of Pentecost arrives and Peter preaches RIGHT HAND THRONE OF GOD KINGDOM preaching.

These disciples then go forth and a miracle occurs in Acts 3.

Acts 3:1-11 KJV  Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.  (2)  And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;  (3)  Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.  (4)  And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.  (5)  And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.  (6)  Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.  (7)  And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.  (8)  And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.  (9)  And all the people saw him walking and praising God:  (10)  And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.  (11)  And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.

Peter preaches JESUS!

Acts 3:12-26 KJV  And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?  (13)  The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.  (14)  But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;  (15)  And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.  (16)  And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.  (17)  And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.  (18)  But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.  (19)  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;  (20)  And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:  (21)  Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.  (22)  For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.  (23)  And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.  (24)  Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.  (25)  Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.  (26)  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

Peter practically preached the same message he did in Acts 2!

Now, remember this is the city JERUSALEM, the very place that David once conquered when it used to be named JEBUSI!

And recall the Philistines who heard of this anointing of David and how he took Jebusi, and their plot to dethrone David.

Acts 4:1-4 KJV  And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,  (2)  Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.  (3)  And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.  (4)  Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

Like the PHILISTINES, these PHILISTINE Jews set out to do something about Jesus and their city, Jerusalem.

Acts 4:10 KJV  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Peter preached JESUS NAME TO THEM.

Acts 4:11-12 KJV  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  (12)  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The religious leaders demand this preaching cease.

Acts 4:16-18 KJV  Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.  (17)  But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.  (18)  And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

Then the apostles did the same thing David did when the Philistines came against David.

Acts 4:23-24 KJV  And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.  (24)  And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

History is repeating itself and the early church recognized it.

Oh, if we could recognize some scriptures about Kingdom when we are in the midst of trials and troubles!

Acts 4:25-27 KJV  Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?  (26)  The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

These believers knew that just as David was told to FIGHT the Philistines when they come, THEY MUST NOT STOP PREACHING JESUS’ NAME, and KEEP FIGHTING IN THE SPIRIT WITH THAT NAME!

The kings of the earth were the Roman leaders in that day.

Psalms 2:1-2 KJV  Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  (2)  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

They realize the TRUTH OF THE PSALM was not so much focused on David’s victory and David’s maintenance of his conquest when the Philistines try to dethrone him after he conquered, but was ABOUT THEM!

Acts 4:(27)  For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

Watch:

Acts 4:10-11 KJV  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  (11)  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

They actually quoted another DAVIDIC KINGDOM PSALM:

Psalms 118:19-22 KJV  Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:  (20)  This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter.  (21)  I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.  (22)  The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Recall that David said NO LAME OR BLIND SHALL ENTER HERE, in memory of the time the Jebusites said David cannot overcome the lame and the blind, let alone take Jebusi.

So the apostles are praying DAVIDIC KINGDOM PSALMS as they stand FOR THE NAME OF JESUS IN THE VERY CITY DAVID CONQUERED, as the enemy tries to stop that name.

But despite their attempts to stop that name, we read:

Psalms 2:6-7 KJV  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.  (7)  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

And later in Acts this reference to the Son begotten THIS DAY is said to speak of the resurrection of Jesus.

Acts 13:33 KJV  God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

Jesus DID rise from the grave.

They continued praying:

Acts 4:29-33 KJV  And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,  (30)  By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.  (31)  And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.  (32)  And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.  (33)  And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

David prayed and the Lord told him to CONTINUE TO FIGHT and take on the philistines.

Psalms 2:8-12 KJV  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Kings had better take heed!

If you have financial troubles, family troubles, the enemy coming against you in any way, shape or form, go to the Lord and seek His face.

2 Samuel 5: (19)  And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

Why?

Psalms 2:4-9 KJV  He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

And we have some final words of advice for the KINGS OF THE EARTH who set out to fight this Name JESUS.

Psalms 2:10-12 KJV  Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.  (11)  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  (12)  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

He’s so powerful that JUST A LITTLE WRATH KINDLED will cause you to utterly PERISH from existence!
