  Scripture Text:

Num 17:2-5 KJV  Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod.  (3)  And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.  (4)  And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.  (5)  And it shall come to pass, that the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

Num 17:8 KJV  And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

  Message:

Last week we said, The rod of LEVI as it were, represents the dedicated child of God who so attaches himself to Christ that he or she brings forth blossoms and fruit!

Num 17:8 KJV  And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

Rev 1:10-13 KJV  I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,  (11)  Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.  (12)  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;  (13)  And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Notice something about the seven candlesticks.

Exo 25:31-33 KJV  And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.  (32)  And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:  (33)  Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.

Num 17:8 KJV  And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

THE CANDLESTICK showed branches exactly as the rod of Levi miraculously manifested.
  • Buds, blossoms and FRUIT ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

A branch that resurrected is associated with the seven branched candlesticks in Revelation1
  • Same tree -- almond.
  • Jesus called Himself a seed that would multiply if it would fall into the ground and die.

And Jesus is in the midst in Rev 1!

He is the vine and we are the branches.

Rev 1:20 KJV  The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

So churches are shown to be almond branches with buds, flowers and almonds, just like the rod of Aaron.

Aaron was proved to be high priest but that miracle.
  • Jesus is our great high priest.
  • So if the branches that are the churches have the same buds, flowers and almonds that Aaron's rod has, and Aaron's rod represents Jesus, we see that the church is supposed to be like JESUS.
Revelation says the TREE OF LIFE was on both sides of the river.

The same picture is seen in Ezekiel, but there are many trees in Ezekiel

Ezekiel 47:12 KJV  And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.

Revelation says TREE OF LIFE was on both sides since it is speaking of a KIND OF TREE.\\

MANY PEOPLE.

PEOPLE ARE TREES:

It is JESUS MULTIPLIED into many Christians, and living by the Holy Ghost as Psalm s says trees are planted by waters.

Psa 1:1-3 KJV  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  (2)  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  (3)  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Proverbs 11:30 KJV  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

It is very important to note that the trees have FRUIT AND LEAVES.

Luke 13:6-9 KJV  He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.  (7)  Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?  (8)  And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:  (9)  And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Matthew 21:19-20 KJV  And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.  (20)  And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

The Bible has interesting things to say about trees with no fruit that give a message to us about Christians.

Trees without FRUIT are cut down:

Deuteronomy 20:19-20  When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege: Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.

PRESERVED TREES -- for all eternity!

Revelation 21:23 KJV  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Jesus is the LIGHT.
  • And after showing us that we change into His image by beholding His face in 2 Co3 and after 2 Cor 4:6 says the LIGHT OF KNOWLEDGE in the face of Jesus shines in our hearts, it is no coincidence that MANY TREES OF LIFE stand in the City.
2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 4:6 KJV  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Just like Him.
  • Reproductions.

John 12:20-26 KJV  And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:  (21)  The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.  (22)  Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.  (23)  And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.  (24)  Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.  (25)  He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.  (26)  If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

YOU MUST DIE AS WELL.
  • "Want to see me?" Jesus asked?
  • SEE A LIGHT THAT SHINES and changes you INTO HIS IMAGE.

SEED TURNS INTO A TREE.
  • Only way a seed and not be alone after it dies, is to grow and become a tree and PRODUCE MANY!

He spoke of changing into His image:

John 12:31-33 KJV  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.  (32)  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.  (33)  This he said, signifying what death he should die.

He then spoke of drawing people to Himself.
  • Tree with branches.

MANY PEOPLE.

One branch that resurrected, became a TREE.
  • Jesus was like a SEED before his death.
  • That seed was buried in death and resurrected.
  • Paul said resurrection is like a seed planted and rising again into a different form of body.
  • So in Revelation 1 when we see Jesus in the midst of candlesticks shaped like almond branches, we see a perfect picture, that fits Jesus' own description of himself as a seed planted to rise again and not be alone, in RESURRECTION LIFE.

HOLIEST into which Aaron's rod was placed and budded was cubed.

1 Kings 6:20 KJV  And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

City is cubed:

SAME COORDINATES!  JUST LIKE HOLIEST.

Revelation 21:16 KJV  And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

And as the ROD resurrected in a HOLIEST OF HOLIES, we now see MANY in the holiest.

Jesus is the Tree of Life represented by a dead rod that resurrected in the most holy place.
  • And the city is a huge most holy place, being a cube just like the most holy place.
  • It shows LIVES being changed by the Spirit of God into people JUST LIKE JESUS.
  • It shows us we cannot make ourselves change like this, any more than a dead stick could make itself resurrect and exist in such a way that nature cannot imitate if it was natural.
  • It shows the KINGDOM OF GOD increasing by having many people changed into Jesus' image.

The city was like a huge HOLIEST OF HOLIES.
  • And the holiest of holies had a veil blocking its entrance.
  • This next verse adds another thought to being inside this holiest of holies.

Hebrews 6:18-20 KJV  That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:  (19)  Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;  (20)  Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

IT IS A REFUGE.

WE ENTERED HOLIEST.  - REFUGE!
  • And since the holiest is a cube shaped room like the New Jerusalem, and also a REFUGE according to Heb 6, we see another aspect of the CITY.
  • With REFUGE IN MIND, the Old Testament spoke of CITIES OF REFUGE.
  • New Jerusalem was a CITY and a grand HOLIEST OF HOLIES.
  • So we put this together and get a huge CITY OF REFUGE.

Cities of Refuge were in the Old Testament, and they all foreshadow the great city of refuge

CITY OF REFUGE:

Zechariah 9:11-12 KJV  As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.  (12)  Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;

The stronghold was the city of refuge.
  • A person would be a prisoner in this city until the death of the High Priest - signified by speaking of the blood of the covenant.
  • And this made the high priest's death the payment for the sinner's sins.
  • So the prisoner has HOPE in the city of refuge, just as Heb 6 says our REFUGE and HOPE is in the most holy place.
  • Heb 6 puts together the picture of the most holy place and the city of refuge to give us a picture of what we read in Revelation about the NEW JERUSALEM.
  • It is a CITY and is like the holiest by being CUBE shaped.

Just as the death of the HIGH PRIEST freed the prisoner in the city of refuge, Jesus' death freed those who came to the CITY for refuge, the NEW JERUSALEM IS THE CHURCH.

Go into the huge most holy place -- the CITY -- and be CHANGED into a tree of life - a copy of Jesus -- and be preserved forever.
