THE GENESIS CHAPTER 1 PUZZLE
(PART 1)

Between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 is a gap of perhaps as much as millions of years.

• Creation of earth and Heaven occurred in 1:1, while v2 shows a chaotic state
• this chaotic state of the earth void and without form is caused by Satan's downfall in the gap, when a battle devastated the earth-God re-created life and renovated the earth in the six days
• So six days are not creation days but renovation.

• The Six Day creation interpretation seems to fall short.
• It says that God created each element mentioned in each day on that day
• But it ignores the difference between the words "create" and "make."

HEBREW TERMINOLOGY

"CREATED"
 
• this word is from the Hebrew bara.
• "to create from nothing."
• used only three times in genesis 1 because only three acts of creation occurred
 
1.  Creation of something from nothing --   Gene 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2.  Creation of life --   Gene 1:21  And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
3.  Creation of man  --   Gene 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
 

Nowhere else is CREATE mentioned in Chapter 1.
 

Gene 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gene 1:7  And God made the firmament, ,...
Gene 1:16  And God made two great lights; ...
Gene 1:21  And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, ...
Gene 1:25  And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, ...
Gene 1:27  So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God ...
 

CREATED - bara (HEBREW) -make from nothing

MADE - asa (HEBREW) -to work  - to prepare out of existing material

God created the heavens and earth in verse 1.  And that was it.

• no more creation OF EARTH.

The six days were days of restoration. But life was created.  All creation was as it was when created except the earth.
 

Gene 1:2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The word "and" here, at the start, implies the first verse is all by itself.
 

"Without form" means:   tohuw {to'-hoo} from an unused root meaning to lie waste
- wasteland, wilderness (of solitary places) -  place of chaos
 

It means DESTRUCTION.

VOID (bohuw) means Emptiness

JEREMIAH SHEDS SOME INSIGHT

Jere 4:23-26  Jeremiah describes a pre-Adamite destruction.

Jere 4:23  I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
 

It is Pre-Adamite (before Adam) because we read it occurred when the earth was "void and without form".  That fits Gen 1:2.

• WHEN were mountains trembling?
• WHEN was there no man?
• WHEN was the fruitfulness place a wilderness?
• ANSWER: When the earth was void and without form (Jeremiah 4:23).

Isai 14:16-17  They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;  That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
 

Jeremiah said these events occurred when the earth was void and without form- GEN. 1:2.

Who was this one who did the things Jeremiah said occurred when the earth was void and without form? Go back a few verses to see who God spoke about.

Look before the verses we quoted in Isaiah 14....

 
Isai 14:12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer,
 
Also...

Psalm 104 relates the entire Genesis 1 account day by day in exact order Genesis listed it.
 

 And Psalm 104 ends the sequence by saying:
 
Psal 104:30  Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

"RENEWEST the face of the earth..." not created.  The six days are not days of creation but "renewal."  RENOVATION.
 

"WAS"

Genesis 1:2 says "earth was void..."

"WAS" is translated from :
 
hayah {haw-yaw} v AV - was, come to pass, came, has been, were happened, become, pertained,  to be, become, come to pass, exist, happen, fall out.

So, from the Hebrew, we get the idea that the earth "became" void and without form.  Or "was made" void and without form.
 
 

TOHUW:
 

Isai 45:18  For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain (TOHUW), he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

The Hebrew word is: tohuw {to'-hoo}  from an unused root meaning to lie waste.

So we read God did not create the world "TOHUW" (without form).  He did not create it "without form."  So if the world was without form in Gen 1:2, and God did not create it "without form", then it became "without form" due to some cataclysm.
 

The Points about Pre-Adamic Earth and Lucifer

Because Lucifer's fall caused the havoc on the earth described in Gen 1:2, looking back at the details given of his pre-fall existence and the roles he played.
 
 

EZEKIEL

Ezek 28:12-18  Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.  Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.  Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.  Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.  Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
 
• This Cherub was in Eden, the Garden and upon the Holy Mountain.
• Like the Outer Court, Holy Place and Most Holy Place.
• In Holy mountain and cherubims in holiest in temple.
• This Eden was not the One Adam was in.
• He did not have precious stones as his covering IN Genesis 3
• He was tempter.
• And Eden before Adam's Eden.
 
•  Exodus 28 says the High Priest wore precious stones.
• Perhaps indicated a City  like New Jerusalem, for the golden breastplate on which the precious stones were placed was foursquare (Exodus 28:16).  The New Jerusalem is also foursquare (Revelation 21:16), and is also built of precious stones and gold.
• Musical instruments (like tabrets and pipes associated with Lucifer) were used by kings and priests
• David - 1 Samuel 16:23
• King of Babylon - Isa. 14:11
• Cherubims worship - Rev 4:9-10 - like priests - lead worship
• Cherubims were by the throne of God on sea of glass
• Ez. 1:26
• Ex. 24:10, 17 - Moses saw sapphire pavement by throne
• So Lucifer was very close to God
• Two Cherubims cover the Ark - Lucifer was one but fell
• So man was a High Priest instead and led worship
• So satan hates your worship and your praise
• it was his duty before he fell.
• "ANOINTED Cherub" - by oil of anointing for ministry.
• And to lead in the ways of God would indicate PROPHETIC role of Lucifer also
 

Jesus, Himself, as glorified man, is Now High Priest, King and Prophet.

• The Millennium will be a restoration of the preadamic earth and the Kingdom, only Jesus will be King of Kings.
 

Satan fell due to his corruption of pride

Paul warns us....
 

1Tim 3:6  Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

• Perhaps a warning of those in ministry getting lifted up in pride as Lucifer did in ministry, and being condemned as Lucifer was condemned.
 

ISAIAH

Isai 14:12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Lucifer was under Heaven

• had a throne
• under clouds
 
He was on earth and a king/priest leading worship and ruling earth under God.

Spirit of Antichrist is his attempt to gain that rule once again.
 

GOD FLOODED EARTH IN WRATH

2Pet 3:5-7  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Gene 1:2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
 

Where is the land?

• Water covered the world in Gen 1:2.  Why?
• When God told Noah He would not again flood the world, had there been no previous flood to make this the second, Noah may have wondered, "Why mention it?  Who said you would?"
• But if there was a flood between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 then the words to Noah have more meaning.
 

Land did not apear until:
 

Gene 1:9-10  And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

Gene 1:13  And the evening and the morning were the third day.

The land was underneath the water and resurrected on the third day!
 

Peter said, "THE WORLD THAT THEN WAS"

• Not the world that is now
• The world in Noah's flood was not changed like it was in Genesis.

God flooded out all traces of Luciferean existence on earth - cities.
• And set out again to renovate the world anew.
 

SUMMARY:

The Bible clearly reveals a previous creation in contrast with the present one.  Lucifer rebelled against God and judgment fell upon the world as it became a battle field.  And the prehistoric kingdom of reptiles (dinosaurs, etc) were not wiped out by a meteorite, but the creation was wiped out in this judgmental wrath of God.  We see an ice age occurred at the time the dinosaurs were wiped out.  This coincides with the thought that the world was flooded and covered with water as in Gen 1:2, and with the absence of light, there would be an ice age.  2 Corinthians 4:6 intimates that light came out of darkness at time of creation (Paul compares that to spiritual light -- truth -- shining in our hearts.  The same God spoke both lights into existence).   Life was created again, but the world was renovated...
