Isaiah
66:1 KJV Thus
saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the
house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
Matthew 6:9-10 KJV
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy
name. (10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in
heaven.
If
Heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool, then we can
pray…
- Thy will be done at the
footstool as it is in the throne.
The
footstool of earth is where the enemies of Jesus are to be put under
His feet.
Psa
110:1-2 KJV A Psalm
of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until
I
make thine enemies thy footstool. (2) The LORD shall send the rod
of
thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
There
is no problem in Heaven where Jesus rules.
- And
Jesus sits on the throne knowing full well that nothing more needs to
be done
in order to provide for victory over his enemies.
- But
at first glance it sounds odd to us to hear of the Lord sitting until
his enemies
are made his footstool.
- In
fact, it is so odd that the common believer unconsciously changes this passage
to say “He will sit on the throne after His enemies are made
his footstool.”
- And
they usually think of the second coming of the Lord when HE SHALL COME
AS RULING
KING.
- That
is error.
- He
SITS ON THE THRONE UNTIL – not AFTER – HIS ENEMIES
are made his footstool.
The
Father is speaking to the Son here.
- Sit
until I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL.
- The
SON has nothing more to do about his enemies.
- The
FATHER makes His enemies His footstool.
- The
SON did all that he would ever do.
- He
died on the cross.
Notice
it is the FATHER that we pray to when we pray for His will to be done
in earth
as it is in heaven.
- This
is why we read the FATHER WILL MAKE THE SON’S ENEMIES HIS
FOOTSTOOL.
- AND
WE ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF SEEING THAT HAPPEN.
- Our
prayers to the Father are to see that happen.
The
Psalm says in the second verse that Jesus RULES in the midst of His
enemies.
- THE
ROD OF HIS STRENGTH is actually the SCEPTRE.
Psalm
110:2 KJV The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule
thou
in the midst of thine enemies.
HIS
POWER is the GOSPEL.
Rom
1:16-17 KJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the
power
of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first,
and also
to the Greek. (17) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed
from faith
to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Psa
45:6 KJV Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom
is a right sceptre.
A
RIGHT SCEPTRE is a reference to RIGHTEOUSNESS in relation to the
sceptre.
- THE
SCEPTRE or rod of strength being sent from ZION is the GOSPEL.
- ZION
is Jerusalem.
- This
is where the GOSPEL STARTED.
Isa
2:3 KJV And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to
the mountain
of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his
ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the
law, and
the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Through the GOSPEL spreading the
enemies of the Lord will become his footstool.
So,
it sounds odd to us to think of a king ruling while he has enemies all around
Him.
- That
is why we can say that his will must be done at the footstool as it is
in heaven.
- This
means that everything that is required for us down here in the earth to
have
victory and to solve everything that is wrong is ALREADY PROVIDED FOR.
- But
it is up in glory.
I
began thinking this way about the verse as follows:
1Pe
2:24 KJV Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree,
that we,
being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye
were healed.
If
we WERE HEALED by His stripes, and yet we see problems and sins, then
that means
the PROVISION is in Heaven for us to bring down here to the earth.
- As
far as Heaven is concerned, we were healed.
- But
here in the earth, at the footstool, where enemies scurry around in
need of being
put under His feet, the prov ision tha tis in heaven must be pulled
down here
and realized.
- Realizing
the provision and work of the cross is seeing the enemies of Jesus put beneath
his feet by the Father.
The
bible says that Jesus SAT DOWN as indication that the work was finished.
Heb
10:11-14 KJV And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes
the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: (12) But this man,
after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the
right hand
of God; (13) From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
(14) For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Psalm
110 does not inform us why He sat down, but we see why here in Hebrews
10.
- It
was because He finished the work needed to be done to deal with sin and
enemies.
- He
sees they’re not under his feet yet, but still does nothing
more to accomplish
that.
- He
knows the work of the cross is complete.
- It
is absolute atonement.
- Nothing
lacks.
- He
has so much confidence in His work of the cross that He sits EXPECTING
all enemies
to be put under his feet.
- To
Him, seeing enemies scurry around does not cause Him to think the work
is incomplete.
- To
Him, he continues to sit expecting them to fall under soon.
- And
we have a lot to do with that.
We
pray to the Father for His kingdom to come and His will to be done in
earth as
it is in heaven.
- The
Father makes His enemies His footstool.
Focus
on THY KINGDOM COME and THY WILL BE DONE.
- His
KINGDOM and WILL are vital.
- Those
two things.
His
Kingdom and Will are mentioned again here in the same sermon on the
mount.:
Mat
7:21 KJV Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into
the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will
of my Father which is in heaven.
You
can think of HIS KINGDOM AND WILL when you read this as well from the
same sermon.
Mat
6:33 KJV But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all
these things shall be added unto you.
The
righteousness of God is HIS WILL being done.
Heb
1:8 KJV But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and
ever: a
sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
This
is what Psalm 110:2 mentioned after it spoke of Jesus seated at the
throne until
His enemies are made his footstool.
Psalm
110:(2) The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou
in the midst of thine enemies.
So
the sceptre GOES FORTH FROM ZION as He rules.
- ZION
is in HEAVEN.
- From
Heaven the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God goes forth to all the world.
As
we pray for his will to be done, we are praying that HIS SCEPTRE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
extends into the earth.
So,
seeking HIS RIGHTESOUNESS is seeking HIS RULE FROM HEAVEN IN ZION INTO
THIS EARTH.
It
is seeking HIS SCEPTRE being brought here.
That
is why Matt 7:21 says we ONLY ENTER THE KINGDOM by DOING HIS WILL.
So,
as we pray for His kindom to come and his will of righteousness to be
done in
the earth at the footstool, GOD SENDS FOR THE ROD OR SCEPTRE OF
RIGHTEOUSNESS INTO
THE EARTH.
- This
brings Jesus’ enemies under His feet.
