JOSEPH WAS associated with promise to gain the land. Genesis 50:24-26 (24) And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. (25) And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. (26) So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. JOSHUA WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROMISE TO DEFEAT THE ENEMIES. Joshua 1:1-6 (1) Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, (2) Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. (3) Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. (4) From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. (5) There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. (6) Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Joshua 24:20-30 (20) If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good. (21) And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD. (22) And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses. (23) Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel. (24) And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey. (25) So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem. (26) And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD. (27) And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God. (28) So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance. (29) And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old. (30) And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash. Jos 24:32 (32) And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph. BOTH Joshua and Joseph DIED AT 110 YEARS OLD. Joseph died at 110 in Egypt about 200 years before this, though.
JOSEPH - Promise of the RETURN to the blessing of the land. JOSHUA - Promise of the defeat of the enemies there. They both were buried afetr the conquest of Canaan. ------------------ God had to deal with two things, represented by these two men. He dealt with the promise of the return to the land, as well as with the enemies that were there in the land. Two promises must be laid to rest! I think this is a truth we need ot understand. Many believers want blessings.
John 5:5-9 (5) And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. (6) When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? (7) The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. (8) Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. (9) And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. After healing the man, He felt it best to find him later and then to tell him something more. RETAIN YOUR HEALING. John 5:14 (14) Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. Obviously his sin got him crippled to begin with.
(14) And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: (15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Along with this salvation, would the BRUISING OF THE DEVIL'S HEAD!
(13) And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; (14) And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. (15) And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. (16) But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full. God wanted ot bless Abraham's family with the land.
THE AMORITES WERE WICKED.
TO JACOB : Genesis 28:15 (15) And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. TO JACOB: Genesis 46:4 (4) I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes. TO JOSEPH: Genesis 48:21 (21) And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. TO THE PEOPLE: Genesis 50:24 (24) And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. After Joshua defeated the sinners, he had removed the PEOPLE who worshipped idols and committed grave iniquity.
Joshua 24:12-25 (12) And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow. (13) And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat. (14) Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. (15) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (16) And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods; (17) For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed: (18) And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God. (19) And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. (20) If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good. IN SHECHEM he made the people promise to not go after the Amorites' gods, after the Amorites were defeated. He said the AMORITES, EVEN THE AMORITES.. the very people God told Abram he must deal with which was the reason Israel could get into the land yet... were dealt with.
And look where Joseph, the promise man for the land was buried. Joshua 24:32 (32) And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph. The very place he was buried was the place Joshua made sure the people knew they must keep their land promised by Joseph by staying away from false gods. Do not ever say the DEVIL MADE YOU DO IT!
The Lord told the serpent that he would have seed.
(13) The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. John 8:31-33 (31) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; (32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (33) They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? John 8:37-44 (37) I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. (38) I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. (39) They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. (40) But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. (41) Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. (42) Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. (43) Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. (44) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. We read that the serpent's seed is not speaking about people of a certain physical lineage.
Mat 23:33 (33) Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? He even said generation of vipers, or serpents.
And these wicked people would be hit by the work of God. And the cross would occur around the same time! And the bible said that the serpent would have his head bruised when the seed of the woman would face the seed of the serpent. And what is interesting is that when Jesus came the land of Israel, and Jerusalem in particular was overrun with religious corruption.
And at the apex of the devil's power over Jerusalem, God's very own people, Jesus Christ came to bring salvation. Jesus would start a church.
Notice that Salvation is foretold in Genesis 3:15.
Mat 23:32-33 (32) Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. (33) Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? And Jesus goes back to Abel's murder, the first sin after the expulsion form the Garden. Mat 23:34-35 (34) Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: (35) That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. His crucifixion, which would be salvation for mankind, would also mark the point that the wickedness of the serpent's seed would be "filled". But their greatest form of sin in crucifying the Lord would also be the Lord's greatest destruction against Hell. He wants you to retain your salv ation and therefore did not bring it until He also at the same time CRACKED THE DEVIL'S HEAD! When God brings you into a blessing He has promised, He is going to coincide that with something else that must be fulfilled.
Israel did not inherit Canaan until the Amorites were dealt a final blow at the same time! Along with Joseph's bones, not meant to be buried in Canaan until the Land was inherited, Joshua had to also die as the one who defeated all the enemies of Israel in the land. Three burials occurred at the end of the book of Joshua.
And when the time came that the land was truly enjoyed and conquered, both Joshua and Joseph were buried. Joshua had arrived at the same AGE as Joseph was when Joseph made that promise of the land -- 110 years old!!!!
(29) And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old. (30) And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash. (31) And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel. (32) And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph. The promise to inherit the land and get Israel back into Canaan was fulfilled, but it was associated with destroying the works of the enemies who had plagued the land since Abraham's time and had to be dealt with only when their iniquity came to a fullness. The bones of a Joseph who lived 110 years, representing PROMISE OF THE LAND, met and were buried at about the same time the bones of a JOSHUA who lived 110 years , were buried.... AFTER BOTH THE LAND WAS THEIR'S AND THE ENEMIES IN THE LAND WERE DEALT WITH. God wants you to be blessed AND KEEP THE BLESSING! God does not simply want to return a blessing to you that was lost by mankind.
The reason a blessing is withheld is because God is associating its timing with the work that needs to be done to deal with the very thing that causes you to lose your blessings! |
