And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and got him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
(Exo 24:18)
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
(Exo 31:18)
And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before
us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of
Egypt, we know not what is become of him.
(Exo 32:1)
And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear. And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath
the mount.
(Exo 32:15-19)
And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor. And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
(Exo 32:27-28)
The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he showed
himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen
of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the
kingdom of God:
(Act 1:1-3)
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Act 2:2-4)
Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For
the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off,
even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did
he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
(Act 2:38-42)
Many people come to Jesus and His Church and seek a book of rules or a Catechism to memorize.
That is not what Jesus came to give.
The Jews claim that the day Moses received the Ten Commandments, God instituted a feast entitled the Day of Pentecost, or feast of weeks.
I read to you the events of the day Moses gave the ten commandments, and the events of the same day about 1,500 years later, when God gave the Holy Ghost to the disciples.
Two similar scenes on the same day, but yet so different.
Moses goes up into a mountain and after forty days receives two slabs of stone with 10 commandments on them.
Jesus preached forty days about the kingdom of God.
He ascends into Heaven and obtains the promise.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;
(John 14:16)
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
(Eph 4:8)
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea,
for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
(Psa 68:18-19)
Jesus went to the Father.
He ascends to the Father.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and
shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
(John 14:16-18)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
(John 14:26)
Jesus is the Holy Ghost.
And instead of handing them tables of stone as He came down for them to
memorize and obey and stick on their doors and hang on their walls,
Jesus goes right inside the hearts of the 120 people.
And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
(John 1:16-17)
Moses smashed the tables of stone in representation that Israel broke the commandments the day they received them.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(Jer 31:31-33)
Jesus came down with the LAWS OF GOD, too.
Go ahead and talk on tongues when you feel God filling you!
And the commandment, which
was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
(Rom 7:10)
For we know that the law
is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
(Rom 7:14)
The problem was in giving a carnal people a spiritual law.
Giving a fleshly people a spiritual rule.
Its like a spiritual law on a rock tablet.
God has to make us spiritual, and then give His law to us by putting it
into our the spiritual part of us - our hearts.
Today it can be so easy for you to mistaken God's intentions and think you have to approach God and take a set of rules home with you.
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
(2Co 3:3)
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
(2Co 3:7-8)
People's hearts are desperately wicked.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
(Jer 17:9)
But something happens to our hearts when God fills us with His Spirit.
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the
stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And
I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and
ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
(Eze 36:26-27)
God gives us a new heart and that deceptive one is not in us any longer!
There was something missing in the Old Covenant under Moses with Law.
The New Testament comments about this:
For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
(Heb 8:7-10)
There was a fault.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
(Rom 8:3-6)
3000 beneath Law die
3000 in grace are given life.
Two covenants.
Two come down from Glory.
Get a life, not Rules!
