THE 9TH HOUR WHEN THE VEIL RIPPED

August 23, 2015
Matthew 27:45-46 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over
all the land unto the ninth hour. (46) And about the ninth
hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?
that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Matthew 27:50-51 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud
voice, yielded up the ghost. (51) And, behold, the veil of
the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth
did quake, and the rocks rent;
When he cried he was forsaken, the veil ripped for all those forsaken.
Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
Acts 10:1-6 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius,
a centurion of the band called the Italian band, (2) A
devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much
alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. (3) He saw in
a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God
coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. (4) And
when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And
he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial
before God. (5) And now send men to Joppa, and call for one
Simon, whose surname is Peter: (6) He lodgeth with one
Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what
thou oughtest to do.
Joppa was where Peter was at 3 pm the day an angel appeared to Cornelius.
• Cornelius was a Gentile, and Gentiles were unclean.
Exodus 12:48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and
will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised,
and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is
born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
The sacrifice on the day of atonement cleansed Israel from their sins.
Leviticus 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an
atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your
sins before the LORD.
• It was for Israel, and you had to become an Israelite to receive that atonement.
• Or you were still unclean in your sins. Gentiles were unclean.
Leviticus 16 talks about clean and unclean and atonement for sacrifice.
• It is interesting that unclean food could not be sacrificed.
• Why would God not let them eat what they were not allowed to sacrifice?
• It’s sort of imitating God.
• God would not receive such sacrifices, as though he would not eat them, Himself.
• So, people were not to eat them.
Keep this in mind.
It’s interesting that Joppa was where Peter was when God called him to preach to the Gentiles.
Jonah 1:1-3 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of
Amittai, saying, (2) Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city,
and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
(3) But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of
the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to
Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go
with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
Jonah was at Joppa when he refused to preach the Gentiles in Ninevah!
Acts 10:9-17 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and
drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about
the sixth hour: (10) And he became very hungry, and would
have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
(11) And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto
him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let
down to the earth: (12) Wherein were all manner of
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things,
and fowls of the air. (13) And there came a voice to him,
Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. (14) But Peter said, Not so,
Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
(15) And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God
hath cleansed, that call not thou common. (16) This was
done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
(17) Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he
had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius
had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
It’s noon when Peter has the vision.
• Unclean and clean animals were lowered to him to eat.
• He refuses to eat the unclean.
• God said he cleansed those formerly unclean animals.
• God would receive them, so Peter had to receive them.
• That’s why God used unclean food to eat in the vision.
Peter did not know what it meant, when the gentiles arrived to take him to Cornelius.
Acts 10:27-28 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found
many that were come together. (28) And he said unto them,
Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to
keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed
me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
Peter asked why they wanted him.
Acts 10:30-35 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting
until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and,
behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, (31) And
said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in
remembrance in the sight of God. (32) Send therefore to
Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in
the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh,
shall speak unto thee. (33) Immediately therefore I sent to
thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we
all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee
of God. (34) Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a
truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: (35)
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is
accepted with him.
EVERY NATION! GENTILES!
• Cornelius told him that at the same hour Peter
arrived, the ninth hour, was when the angel arrived four days before,
telling him to get Peter.
• The same hour Jesus died and the veil ripped.
• So, both when the angel came to Cornelius, and
Peter arrived four days later it was the ninth hour, 3pm.
• The Gentiles were SEPARATED from God due to
uncleanness of their sins, that Israel had atonement sacrifices to
cleanse.
• AND THE VEIL OF SEPARATION RIPPED AT THE 9TH HOUR, AND THE BLOOD OF JESUS MADE ATONEMENT.
His sacrifice was not just for Israel like the Old Testament.
• He was the lamb who takes away the sins of the whole world!
• Makes atonement for every nation!
It’s not just Jews, but it’s Jews and Gentiles!
Jonah would not go, but Peter did!
This is not a Gentile Church!
Matthew 16:15-19 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I
am? (16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the
Christ, the Son of the living God. (17) And Jesus answered
and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood
hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
(18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this
rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it. (19) And I will give unto thee the keys of the
kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be
bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be
loosed in heaven.
Peter correctly identified Jesus.
• Jesus called him SIMON BARJONA.
• SIMON SON OF JONAH.
• And notice it was PETER who was given the keys.
• He’d open the door to the Jews to get saved in Acts 2.
• When the half-Jew half-Gentile Samaritans were
baptized in Acts 8, PETER AND JOHN WERE CALLED, because Peter had the
keys.
Acts 8:14-15 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard
that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter
and John: (15) Who, when they were come down, prayed for
them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (16) (For as yet he
was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of
the Lord Jesus.)
Just like the Jews, in Acts 2 who were baptized and received the Holy
Spirit, the Samaritans were also baptized and got the Spirit.
Some say Acts 2 was only for Jews, but here we have Samaritans getting the same experiences!
And now Acts 10 has PETER ONCE AGAIN, the man with the keys!
Acts 10:44-48 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost
fell on all them which heard the word. (45) And they of the
circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with
Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the
Holy Ghost. (46) For they heard them speak with tongues,
and magnify God. Then answered Peter, (47) Can any man
forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received
the Holy Ghost as well as we? (48) And he commanded them to
be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry
certain days.
The SON OF JONAH preached the Gentiles willingly, whereas Jonah refused and God had to make him do it.
And speaking of Jews and Gentiles TOGETHER in the CHURCH, and the
church built on the rock, that association of the Jews and Gentiles and
the ROCK foundation is found in detailed teaching in Eph 2.
Ephesians 2:12-20 That at that time ye were without Christ, being
aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the
covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the
world: (13) But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were
far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (14) For he
is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle
wall of partition between us; (15) Having abolished in his
flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances;
for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
(16) And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the
cross, having slain the enmity thereby: (17) And came and
preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were
nigh. (18) For through him we both have access by one
Spirit unto the Father. (19) Now therefore ye are no more
strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of
the household of God; (20) And are built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the
chief corner stone;
The wall is TORN DOWN!
By the blood and by the cross mean the same thing!
At the same hour the veil ripped when Jesus died, the GENTILES CAME IN.
• The middle wall was torn down.
• Both Jews and gentiles can come in together.
It’s not a Gentile church.
Act 2:5 KJV And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:14 KJV But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his
voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at
Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Act 2:22 KJV Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a
man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which
God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Act 2:36 KJV Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that
God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and
Christ.
Act 2:39 KJV For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to
all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Act 2:41 KJV Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and
the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls
Act 2:47 KJV Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And
the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
THAT WAS THE CHURCH – not a Gentile in it!!
Act 4:4 KJV Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
ALL JEWS!
Act 5:11 KJV And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
Not a gentile in it yet!
Act 5:30-32 KJV The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew
and hanged on a tree. (31) Him hath God exalted with his right hand to
be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and
forgiveness of sins. (32) And we are his witnesses of these things; and
so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Act 7:38 KJV This is he, that was in the church (ekklesia) in the
wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and
with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
Act 8:1 KJV And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time
there was a great persecution against the church (ekklesia) which was
at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions
of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
And GENTILES COME INTO THE JEWISH CHURCH and are engrafted by the blood of Jesus in Acts 10!
Not only the unclean gentiles are cleansed.
Acts 3:1-2 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at
the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. (2) And a certain
man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at
the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them
that entered into the temple;
Acts 3:8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with
them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
The lame could not enter the temple and lame people in the priests’ family could not pass the veil!
Leviticus 21:23 Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come
nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my
sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.
But the crippled was healed the same hour on the cross Jesus died and the devil ripped.
• Same hour Cornelius and Gentiles received the Holy Spirit and were baptized in Jesus’ name!
• JUST LIKE JEWS IN ACTS 2 at 3rd
hour!
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began
to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
Acts 2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
From 3rd hour when Jews saved the same hour Jesus FIRST HANGED on the
cross, to the 9th hour when Gentiles were saved when Jesus died and the
veil ripped, ALL NATIONS are saved by the blood of Jesus!
His blood cleanses everyone!
