A New Exodus &
New Genesis
April 19, 2013
The wonderful
story and truth of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ took
place at the time of year when Israel’s PASSOVER occurred.
- Passover
was recorded in Exodus and was all about Israel
freed from Egypt when they were bound there as slaves.
- It
all began when God was ready to deliver Israel.
Exodus 4:22-23 And thou shalt
say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the
LORD, Israel is my son,
even my firstborn: (23) And I say unto thee, Let my son go,
that he may serve me: and
if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy
son, even thy firstborn.
God caused 9 plagues to strike
Egypt but purposely hardened the heart
of Pharaoh to not release
Israel.
- God
wanted to emphasize that one thing and one thing only saves us
today.
Exodus 11:1 And the LORD
said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one
plague more upon Pharaoh,
and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when
he shall let you go, he
shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Exodus 11:4-7 And Moses
said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight
will I go out into the
midst of Egypt: (5) And all the firstborn in the land of
Egypt
shall die, from the firstborn of
Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne,
even unto the firstborn of
the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the
firstborn
of beasts. (6) And there shall be a
great cry throughout all the land
of Egypt, such as there was
none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
(7) But against any of the
children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue,
against man or beast: that
ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference
between the Egyptians and
Israel.
Exodus 12:3 Speak ye unto
all the congregation of Israel, saying,
In the tenth day of this
month they shall take to them every man a lamb,
according to the house of
their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Exodus 12:6-7 And ye shall
keep it up until the fourteenth day of
the same month: and the
whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill
it in the evening. (7) And
they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two
side posts and on the upper
door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat
it.
Notice they took the lamb on the
10th day and they slew it on the 14th
day.
- 4
days.
- If
one day is like one thousand years, this perfectly fits the picture
of Jesus.
- Jesus
was slain 4,000 years after Adam was created.
- On
the 4th day he was slain.
Exodus 12:23 For the
LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians;
and when he seeth the blood
upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the
LORD will pass over the
door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in
unto your houses to smite
you.
When Israel left Egypt that day,
events started to occur that show a
powerful picture of
something even more significant.
- This
resurrection experience of Jesus Christ took place at the time of
Passover when God took
Israel from Egypt.
- But
all of that together also forms a powerful picture of WHAT GOD DID
IN GENESIS in creation!
- So
somehow, the resurrection of Jesus and the Passover of
Israel’s Exodus from Egypt
are all connected to the VERY CREATION IN GENESIS back to before
Adam’s time.
- It’s
as if God recreated a sort of spiritual creation to star
things all over again by
going back before Adam existed and sinned, so that it would be
as
- though
God started out brand new with us in our salvation!
Exodus 14:3-4 For Pharaoh
will say of the children of Israel, They
are entangled in the land,
the wilderness hath shut them in. (4) And I will
harden
Pharaoh's heart, that he shall
follow after them; and I will be
honoured upon Pharaoh, and
upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am
the LORD. And they did so.
God was setting things up to show
his glory.
- Something
special would occur for God to be glorified, that is focused
around the RED SEA, and
speaks of our water baptism today for remission of
sins.
Exodus 14:5-8 And it
was told the king of Egypt that the people
fled: and the heart of
Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people,
and they said, Why have we
done this, that we have let Israel go from serving
us? (6) And he made ready
his chariot, and took his people with him: (7) And he
took six hundred chosen
chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and
captains over every one of
them. (8) And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king
of Egypt, and he pursued
after the children of Israel: and the children of
Israel went out with an
high hand.
Exodus 14:9 But the
Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses
and chariots of Pharaoh,
and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them
encamping by the sea,
beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.
At this time, before we get to what
happened next, lets’ go
to
some of the last words
Jesus gave to His disciples before he left this world after
preaching forty days after
his resurrection.
- You
do not hear much preaching about these words.
- But
look how important they are.
Luke 24:45-49 Then opened he
their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (46) And said
unto them, Thus it is written,
and
thus it behoved Christ to suffer,
and to rise from the dead the third
day: (47) And that
repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his
name among all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem.
Notice THEY WOULD PREACH SOMETHING
BEGINNING AT JERUSALEM.
1. Repentance.
2. Remission of sins in His name.
(48) And ye are witnesses of these
things. (49) And, behold, I send the
promise of my Father upon
you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem,
until ye
be endued with power from on high.
3. The Promise of the Father would
come upon them.
A message would BEGIN to be
preached that wold BEGIN at Jerusalem and
be sent to all the world.
- They
were to tarry and wait in the city of Jerusalem.
- There
they would receive the promise of the Father.
- They
would be endued with power from on high.
Acts picks up on this account and
explains these last words of Jesus as
follows:
Acts 1:3 To whom also he
shewed himself alive after his passion by
many infallible proofs,
being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the
things
pertaining to the kingdom of God:
He resurrected and preached for
forty days!
Acts 1:4-9 And, being
assembled together with them, commanded them
that they should not depart
from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the
Father, which, saith he, ye
have heard of me. (5) For John truly baptized with
water; but ye shall be
baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. (6)
When they therefore were
come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord,
wilt thou at this time
restore again the kingdom to Israel? (7) And he said unto
them, It is not for you to
know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath
put in his own power. (8)
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy
Ghost is come upon you: and
ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and
in all Judaea, and in
Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (9)
And when he had spoken
these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a
cloud received him out of
their sight.
Forty days had gone by.
The baptism of the Holy Ghost was
the promise of the Father that they
heard Jesus speak about.
Then they followed the words of
Jesus to go and wait at Jerusalem for
this promise.
Acts 1:12 Then returned they
unto Jerusalem from the mount called
Olivet, which is from
Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.
Acts 2:1-4 And when the day
of Pentecost was fully come, they were
all with one accord in one
place.
Pentecost occurred 50 days after
passsover.
Jesus had already preached 40 days
until He ascended to Heaven after He
died.
- And
they waited until Pentecost when the promise of the Father was
fulfilled.
- That
means they waited TEN DAYS in that upper room, seeking God.
(2) And suddenly there came a sound
from heaven as of a rushing mighty
wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting. (3) And there
appeared
unto them cloven tongues like as of
fire, and it sat upon each of them.
(4) And they were all
filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with
other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
Jesus told them to WAIT FOR THE PROMISE and THEN BEGIN PREACHING A
MESSAGE THEY HAD NEVER
PREACHED BEFORE once this promise came.
COMPARE:
Luke 24:46 And said unto
them, Thus it is written, and thus it
behoved Christ to suffer,
and to rise from the dead the third day:
Acts 2:30-31 Therefore being
a prophet, and knowing that God had
sworn with an oath to him,
that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh,
he would raise up Christ to
sit on his throne; (31) He seeing this before spake
of the resurrection of
Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his
flesh
did see corruption.
Resurrection is explained by Peter
just Like Jesus explained it to them
before He left the world.
Luke 24:47 And that
repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name among
all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 2 (38) Then Peter said unto
them, Repent, and be baptized every
one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
Repentance and remission of sins
with Baptism in His name, just like
Jesus told them the preach
beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:49 And, behold, I
send the promise of my Father upon you:
but tarry ye in the city of
Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Acts 2:38b …and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:39 For the promise is
unto you, and to your children, and to
all that are afar off, even
as many as the Lord our God shall call.
The PROMISE of the Holy Ghost was
preached just like Jesus explained
before He left the world.
FULL GOSPEL!
Luke 24:48 And ye are
witnesses of these things.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is
come upon you: and ye shall
be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judaea, and in Samaria, and
unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The first thing Jesus told them to
preach was REPENTANCE.
This takes us back to the RED SEA
EXPERIENCE.
Repentance is when you ask God to
forgive you of your sins and not
desire to do them any more.
IT MEANS TURN AROUND.
When you repent, and ask
forgiveness, GOD TAKES THOSE SINS and
separates them from one
another.
Exodus 14:13 And Moses said unto
the people, Fear ye not, stand still,
and see the salvation of
the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the
Egyptians
whom ye have seen to day, ye shall
see them again no more for ever.
Exodus 14:19-20 And the
angel of God, which went before the camp of
Israel, removed and went
behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from
before their face, and
stood behind them: (20) And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it
was a cloud and darkness to
them, but it gave light by
night to these: so that the one came not near the
other all the night.
Notice this:
When the enemy came upon Israel,
God’s angel that was leading
Israel moved behind them
and stood between the Egyptians and the Israelites.
- And
it was light to Israel but was Darkness to Egypt.
- JUST
LIKE THE FIRST WORK OF CREATION.
- Genesis
1:1-4 In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth. (2) And the earth
was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the
face of the deep. And the
Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (3) And
God said, Let there be
light: and there was light. (4) And God saw the
light, that it was good:
and God divided the light from the darkness.
Just like Israel being tormented by
Egypt and treated like slaves, our
lives were tormented by our
sins that held us in bondage.
- And
the first step in seeing that broken is what Peter preached to the
Jews the day the church
came to a new level as promised by Jesus.
THAT IS what REPENTANCE does.
- Just
as Peter followed Jesus’ instruction, you HEAR TRUTH
PREACHED OF THE CROSS AND
WHY JESUS DIED and HOW HE RESURRECTED.
- WE
WERE THE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH.
- God
says LET THERE BE LIGHT!
- LIGHT
OF TRUTH.
- When
you repent as a result, God takes your sins and separates them
from you like God separated
light from darkness, and separated the Egyptians
from the Israelites and
made it dark on the side of the pillar where Egypt was
and light on the side where
Israel was.
The second thing Peter said was BE
BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS.
Genesis 1:6-7 And God said,
Let there be a firmament in the midst
of the waters, and let it
divide the waters from the waters. (7) And God made
the
firmament, and divided the waters
which were under the firmament from
the waters which were above
the firmament: and it was so.
Exodus 14:21-22 And Moses
stretched out his hand over the sea; and
the LORD caused the sea to
go back by a strong east wind all that night, and
made the sea dry land, and
the waters were divided. (22) And the children of Israel
went into the midst of the
sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a
wall unto them on their
right hand, and on their left.
The same words used in GENESIS 1!
WATERS WERE DIVIDED.
REMISSION OF SINS means FORGIVENESS
OF SINS.
- Egyptian
soldiers represent our sins.
Exodus 14:26-29 And the LORD
said unto Moses, Stretch out thine
hand over the sea, that the
waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their
chariots, and upon their
horsemen. (27) And Moses stretched forth his hand over
the sea, and the sea
returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the
Egyptians fled against it;
and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the
midst of the sea. (28) And
the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and
the horsemen, and all the
host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after
them; there remained not so
much as one of them. (29) But the children of Israel
walked upon dry land in the
midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto
them on their right hand,
and on their left.
The sins God separates from you
when you repent are then dealt with
again by the waters.
Compare:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said
unto them, Repent, and be baptized every
one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, …
Luke 24:47 And that
repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name among
all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
NOT ONE EGYPTIAN REMAINED ALIVE!
Exodus 14:30-31 Thus the
LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand
of the Egyptians; and
Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore. (31)
And Israel saw that great
work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and
the people feared the LORD,
and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
Exodus 15:1-2 Then sang
Moses and the children of Israel this song
unto the LORD, and spake,
saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath
triumphed gloriously: the
horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. (2)
The LORD is my strength and
song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God,
and I will prepare him an
habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
GOD BECAME THEIR SALVATION –
THAT IS THE MEANING OF THE NAME
JESUS – YASHUA!
Exodus 15:6 Thy right hand,
O LORD, is become glorious in power:
thy right hand, O LORD,
hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
Acts 2:33 Therefore being by
the right hand of God exalted, and
having received of the
Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed
forth this, which ye now
see and hear.
The praise for the RIGHT HAND OF
GOD being VICTORIOUS is a foreshadow
of the Lord’s seating
after His resurrection AT THE RIGHT HAND
THRONE OF
GOD!
Acts 2:34 For David is not
ascended into the heavens: but he saith
himself, The LORD said unto
my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
Exodus 15:12 Thou
stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth
swallowed them.
Acts 22:16 And now why
tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and
wash away thy sins, calling
on the name of the Lord.
WASH AWAY like the soldiers of
Egypt!
1 Corinthians 10:1-2 (1)
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye
should be ignorant, how
that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed
through the sea; (2) And
were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the
sea;
BORN OF SPIRIT AND WATER.
Pass through the cloud (Spirit) and
the Red Sea (water).
The promise of the Father of the
promise of the Holy Ghost was like
Israel shouting and dancing
after the Red Sea victory occurred!
Exodus 14:31 And Israel saw
that great work which the LORD did upon
the Egyptians: and the
people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and
his servant Moses.
It was something special at the Red
Se, for Israel BELIEVED GOD AND HIS
SERVANT MOSES.
Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD
thy God will raise up unto thee a
Prophet from the midst of
thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall
hearken;
JESUS is the one whom we come to
truly BELIEVE IN at such an experience.
IT STARTED IN JERUSALEM.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is
come upon you: and ye shall
be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judaea, and in Samaria, and
unto the uttermost part of the earth.
THEN SAMARIA:
Acts 8:16 (For as yet he was
fallen upon none of them: only they
were baptized in the name
of the Lord Jesus.)
THEN REST OF WORLD – GENTILES:
Acts 10:45-48 And they of
the circumcision which believed were
astonished, as many as came
with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was
poured out the gift of the
Holy Ghost. (46) For they heard them speak with tongues,
and magnify God. Then
answered Peter, (47) Can any man forbid water, that
these should not be
baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as
we? (48) And he commanded
them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then
prayed they him to tarry
certain days.
Jailer:
Acts 16:30-33 And brought
them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do
to be saved? (31) And they
said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou
shalt be saved, and thy
house. (32) And they spake unto him the word of the
Lord, and to all that were
in his house. (33) And he took them the same hour of
the night, and washed their
stripes; and was baptized, he and all his,
straightway.
Disciples of John:
Acts 19:1-2 And it came to
pass, that, while Apollos was at
Corinth, Paul having passed
through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding
certain disciples, (2) He
said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since
ye believed? And they said
unto him, We have not so much as heard whether
there be any Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:3-6 And he said unto
them, Unto what then were ye baptized?
And they said, Unto John's
baptism. (4) Then said Paul, John verily
baptized with the baptism
of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should
believe on him which should
come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. (5) When
they heard this, they were
baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (6) And when
Paul had laid his hands
upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake
with tongues, and
prophesied.
OPERATION OF GOD.
Colossians 2:11-12 In whom
also ye are circumcised with the
circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by
the
circumcision of Christ: (12) Buried
with him in baptism, wherein also
ye are risen with him
through the faith of the operation of God, who hath
raised him
from the dead.
