Psalm 139:1-17 To the chief
Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known
[me]. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my
thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted
[with] all my ways. For [there is] not a word in my tongue, [but], lo, O LORD,
thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before,
and laid thine hand upon me. [Such] knowledge [is] too wonderful
for me; it is high, I cannot [attain] unto it. Whither shall I go from thy
spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven,
thou [art] there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou [art there]. [If]
I take the wings of the morning, [and] dwell in the uttermost parts of the
sea; Even
there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the
darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the
darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness
and the light [are] both alike [to thee]. For thou hast possessed my reins:
thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully
[and] wonderfully made: marvellous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth
right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret,
[and] curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see
my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all [my members] were written,
[which] in continuance were fashioned, when [as yet there was] none of them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum
of them!
- With these words in mind,
notice the reference to the lower parts of the earth....
Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended,
what is it but that he also descended first into the lower
parts of the earth?
HE WROUGHT US IN THE DEPTHS OF
THE EARTH
This is a spiritual reference
to the work Of Jesus when He died and was buried in the earth, for we are
told that by faith we were buried with Him and there we experienced a wonderful
change!
- The Bible teaches us that
we were crucified with Him (Rom. 6:6).
- We were Buried with Him
(Col. 2:12)
- And we were risen with
Him (Col. 2:12).
When we were buried with Him,
we experienced an operation of God.
Colossians 2:12-15 Buried with him in baptism,
wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation
of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins
and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him,
having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances
that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way,
nailing it to his cross; [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he
made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
- Three things he did when
we were buried with Him and risen with Him
- Quickened you, forgiving
you of all trespasses
- Blotted out the handwriting
of ordinances that was against us. Meaning, He removed the Old Testament
and made a New testament for us.
- Spoiled principalities,
and made a show of them openly.
He took the Old Testament out
of the Way:
Isaiah 57:14 And shall say, Cast ye
up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way
of my people.
Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new
[covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth
old [is] ready to vanish away.
- Nobody could live up to
the expectations of the Old Testament.
Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt
ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers
nor we were able to bear?
He took us from the Devil and
Spoiled him making a show of it.
Isaiah 49:25 But thus saith the LORD,
Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible
shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee,
and I will save thy children.
- A great operation occurred
in the depths of the earth upon us.
- When Jesus was down there,
we, who believed He died as us in substitution, experienced a great forming.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed
man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life; and man became a living soul.
- Adam was made from the dust
of the Earth.
- God reached down to the
Earth, almost as though His Hand plunged into the Dust and pulled out some
dust and began forming it.
Notice how the Bible describes
the HAND of God
Matthew 26:64 Jesus saith unto him,
Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting
on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Acts 7:55 But he, being full of
the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God,
and Jesus
standing on the right hand of God,
We read that Jesus is not AT
the Right Hand, but ON IT. This is not saying that God has a right side to
Himself, so that another could stand beside Him. God is omnipresent. You
cannot stand beside an Omnipresent God. RIGHT HAND signifies POWER.
1 Corinthians 1:24 But unto them which are
called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
- This verse above explains
it! When we read that Jesus is on the Right hand of God, that means He is
the POWER of God.
- Jesus Christ is the POWER
OF GOD
- Right Hand represents POWER
- Jesus is at the right hand,
or in the place of the right hand, or IS THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD.
- He is the expression of
God's power.
- God is invisible, but he
is the EXPRESS IMAGE of God.
- He is all you can see about
God.
God is a Spirit, and you cannot
see a Spirit. What we are reading is a picture of God in the Spirituals reaching
into the physicals with His right hand... the manifestation of God in flesh.
Jesus is the right hand of God, or the manifestation of God's power. Jesus
is the expression of God. The expressed image of the invisible God.
- When God's hand reached
into the Earth, it was a picture of Jesus Christ being buried in the Earth
and we were the dust who were operated upon.
- The cross was the way of
salvation, because Jesus died in our places on it. when we should have died,
and because of that, our lives were changed while He was in that earth.
- We went down with Him.
- We died since He did it
for us.
- And that set us free from
the wages of sin -- death.
- The operation of God occurred,
it is said, IN THAT BURIAL STAGE.
- Our old lives went down
and there, in the earth, a new man was created, as our sins were separated
from us and God forgot our old lives and old sins.
- We came out as new creations
because, between the death and the resurrection, there was a burial in which
an operation occurred.
The BURIAL of Jesus Christ is
the focal point of the Gospel. We have the DEATH, the BURIAL and the RESURRECTION.
- We died with Him as sinners.
- We resurrected with Him
as saints.
- What happened in between
these two points to change us from sinners to saints?
- THE BURIAL WITH HIM
- Our BURIALS with Him is
where our sins were removed from us, since we died and paid the price of sin...
death.
- And He extracted those
sins from us and we were made new creatures there.
- So the burial is the TRANSFORMATION
point where we were removed from Adam and placed into Christ.
That is why we read...
Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so
many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his
death?
- We are born again.
- We are changed in that
burial
In our opening text, David said
the HAND of the Lord was upon him.
- It formed him and then LED
HIM afterwards.
- This Psalm not only is
the one that said "Psal 139:8-9 If I ascend up
into heaven, thou [art] there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou [art
there]. [If] I take the wings of the morning, [and] dwell in the uttermost
parts of the sea; ..."
- ...But it also says Psal
139:10-11 "Even there shall thy hand lead me, and
thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely
the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me."
He is not only omnipresent...
we use these verses to show that God's Spirit is everywhere... but He is guiding
us everywhere!
- He is with us everywhere
we go.
- He is helping us everywhere.
- David was so awestruck
a the thought, that he said, "Thou hast beset me
behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. [Such] knowledge [is] too
wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot [attain] unto it." (139:5-6)
He said that the thought of God's
hand being upon Him everywhere He went was too wonderful to understand!
- The same hand that FORMED
US -- the right hand of God - the Son of God -- is the same HAND OF POWER
that is upon us at all times.
- Do not fear troubled times,
His hand is on you all the way through.
Psalm 71:18 Now also when I am old
and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto [this] generation,
[and] thy power to every one [that] is to come.
Psal 71:20 [Thou], which hast shewed
me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring
me up again from the depths of the earth.
- QUICKEN ME FROM THE DEPTHS
OF THE EARTH.
- SHOW the world GOD'S POWER.
- POWER is associated with
being lifted from the depths of the earth.
- HIS RIGHT HAND OF POWER
was plunged into the earth in the form of Jesus Christ when Jesus was buried,
and I was buried with Him.
- There, His hand wrought
a wonderful work in me.
- And He changed me there.
- He took my sins away from
me in an operation of His Spirit.
- Only GOD'S POWER, or RIGHT
HAND, could have done that!
- ONLY JESUS.
Isaiah 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou
[art] our father; we [are] the clay, and thou our potter; and we all [are]
the work of thy hand.
2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure
in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not
of us.
- As Adam, we are all dust
of the earth or clay.
- He put a treasure in this
old earth. In our bodies.
- We are the clay, the WORK
of thy HAND. RIGHT HAND. SON OF GOD.
He took the dust and lifted it
out, separated us from all the world, and then FORMED THAT DUST.
- Like His work with Adam,
after we are taken from the earth, God's HAND forms us.
- He is still forming us.
- He is shaping us after
the image of Jesus Christ.
- All new creation comes
from one tomb... the one Jesus was buried in.
- In there, all new creatures
are taken and formed.
- We become one SPIRIT with
Him.. that which is Born of Spirit (God's Spirit) is spirit (our spirits).
- And we then are transformed
by the renewing of our minds into the MIND of Christ.
- And then at the rapture...
Philippians 3:21 Who shall change our
vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according
to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
- After our spirits are changed
to unite with His at Spirit baptism, He renews our minds to have the mind
of Christ, and then will even change our bodies to be like His body.
- Baptism
is a burying into the ground with Jesus, where a miracle occurs!
- No wonder
the Devil hates Baptism in Jesus' Name!
- No wonder
it is so hard to find a church that believes in it!
Peter also said that water baptism
was foreshadowed by the flood of water in Noah's day.
1 Peter 3:20-21 Which sometime were disobedient,
when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the
ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away
of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,)
by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
- During the flood, a world
of sin was being removed.
- When Noah's ark landed
after the flood subsided, a new creation, as it were, existed.
- And nothing happened until
Noah sent forth the dove and it returned with an olive branch in its mouth.
Gene 8:11 And the dove came in
to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth [was] an olive leaf pluckt off:
so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
- AFTER Jesus was baptized,
the dove came to Him!
Mark 1:9-11 And it came to pass in
those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John
in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the
water, he
saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon
him: And
there came a voice from heaven, [saying], Thou art my beloved Son, in whom
I am well pleased.
- Jesus was baptized.
- He was showing a hint of
what we must do to be saved.
- And after He came out of
the water, just as Noah's ark had traveled through the flood, a dove came
down to Him and a voice said This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.
- God took us from being in
ADAM and transported through the watery grave of Baptism and placed us in
a new situation, IN CHRIST.
- By One Spirit are we all
baptized INTO CHRIST.
- He formed us all when he
formed Adam from the dust. And Adam carried us around in him, we being yet
unborn later came forth from Adam. And Adam carried us when he bit into the
forbidden fruit. And Adam carried us when God cursed the earth for His sake,
the earth from which He was taken. And Adam carried us in him when he was
cast out of the Garden.
- So God set out to make
a last Adam. Another Adam and another mankind.
- He could have wiped out
the old humanity, but chose to renovate it instead.
- He salvaged all of us who
agreed to be baptized into Jesus Christ, by burying us back into the ground
again into the origin of mankind -- the dust of the earth in a tomb with Jesus.
- And he REFORMED us in that
dust. He CHANGED our make-up.
- He changed our beings.
- He took cursed dust and
transformed it into new humanity.
- Deep in the depths of the
earth He wrought a work.
- He took away our sins,
and threw them away from us as far as the east is from the west (and there
is an infinite distance for East to be separated from west)
- The Only man who was sinless,
the manifestation of God as a man, was buried and we were buried with Him
and there He put us INTO Jesus Christ.
- He put us into that sinless
one... that NEW ADAM.
- And he showed us what would
happen when we raised from the dust with Him when He had a dove come down
to Him after He came out of the water of baptism... representing burial in
the earth.
- We would have HIS SPIRIT
and be well pleasing in His sight.
- Jesus already had that
Spirit in Him since He was born, but this occurred to show us that when we
are buried with Him, we will rise with Him and that Spirit will come to us
because we are in HIM.
- We changed HERITAGES in
that dust!
- We changed ADAMS in that
dust.
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die,
even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
- Somehow we had to leave
Adam and get into Christ.
1Cor 15:45 And so it is written,
The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening
spirit.
- As Noah's ark came through
the WORLD CHANGING WATERS, after the WATERS changed the entire face of the
earth, removing all sinners, and a dove came to the ark, we were buried with
Christ and BAPTIZED INTO HIM and the world of sin was removed from us as the
HOLY GHOST came to dwell inside HOLY people separated from their old lives.
